I Have Been banned from renting from avis because I used an Avis Europe Shareholder AWD Code, even after I had faxed thru my Share certificates, This, while being a presidents Club cardholder. This is the most bizarre thing that has ever happened to me.
I suggested to one rep th this may be racially motivated, and he said oh well we have had problems of this type (racial).
with lawsuits etc. looks like they worsened things instead of bettered them..
Any similar experiences?

I don't quiet understand if you did something wrong or not. However, I feel there was no reason to BANN you, Avis could have given you a warning (if indeed something was "fishy" with your CPD.
Question: Do you need Avis? There are other good rental companies out .. Hertz, National .. Budget ...

If you have been banned from renting Avis cars either locally or worldwide, I'm sure many of us would like to know what they alleged you did and why it was worthy of a ban. However, I can't figure it out from what you provided above.<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by ganefe:

Warrenlm, I also would like to figure out what I did wrong but they have nothing to say, because the is no legit. reason behind this decision. Avis Europe recommended I take legal action, (they are separate companies)but as USAFAN mentioned, and a couple of avis employees cheekily suggested, there are other comanies out there, therefore at this point in time I am not taking legal action, though I might at some stage.
This was a bewildering situation, which I cannot understand since there are no real allegations on their part.
What I meant on the above post was that the only reason they had come up with, was that I had used an AWD (Avis europe shareholders) fraudulently (!) which was an outright lie.
The writing on the wall was, we do not have you as a customer. period.
I spoke with everyone in the company at all levels, where the result was consistent throughout, i.e. get lost.
This is just the tip of the iceberg,
i.e. there were many phone calls that just ended with just a telephone being replaced on their side, and no I was not being rude.
I was just trying to fathom out the reasoning behind this treatment. Unfortunately, I am still in the dark.
This may sound ridiculous, since this is only about a car rental co., but this whole incident was a nightmare for me, since I felt I was being actioned against for no apparent reason.

I'm curious about this so I'll ask some more. It appears you used the special discount available to Avis Europe Shareholders. Now, Avis says you were not entitled to use the special discount. Will this prevent you from renting from Avis totally or just from them with special shareholder rates?<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by ganefe:

Legal action? c'mon folks. "We have the right to refuse service to anyone" is standard practice in most of the world. As long as they don't say "we won't sell to you because you're <racial designation here>" they're pretty much off the hook.

This is a ban on myself... not on the AWD.
Also, to clarify, I AM an avis europe shareholder.

The discount code gives you 50% off in europe only, In the US the discount is about 5%, so you may as well use an AAA code.<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by davistev:

The reason I used it in the US was that I had been informed that $110 under 25 fees (NY) are waived.
I am not posting it simply for the reason that should I take legal action against those guys, they may have "proof" that I "fraudulently" disclosed info. that may not be disclosed. Besides the fact that legally you MUST have 350 Avis europe shares (AVE) in order to be eligible for this AWD.
I find this story very difficult to believe. There's got to be more to it. If this AWD # is not valid in the US, why was it in their system and honored? When did they inform you, before or after the rental? You were banned for a lousy 5% discount? Nobody at Avis will talk to you or explain the violation? Perhaps you were "banned" because you are under 25, and Avis "banned" you until you meet their age requirement. Things have to make sense, and this does not.

Bob, you are asking questions but I can not provide the answers, as far as I am concerned I asked prior to the rental if xyz AWD# is subject to u25 fees, confirmation was provided in written form, that no under age fees apply in this case, I rented the vehicle, one day while I still had the car I get a call from Avis security, asking very strange questions, i.e. how come I have pres club status if I am not a president of any company, to which I replied that as an amex centurion member this is one of the benefits,<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by bob1008:

Also the security officer said it appears to us that you are trying to evade paying under age fees, to which I replied that I had written confirmation that I was not subject to those fees, I offered to fax this to him and when he got the fax said, well, I don't neccesarily agree with that,
Then he says you just bring the car back now, so I say why? and he says because I want you to (!) I say I dont have to, he says right, you dont have to, but bring it back anyway, I say give it to me in writing, he says no I will not. Then asked why do you need a caddilac for anyway, what's wrong with a regular car? (all in an extremely sarcastic tone of voice)also, you should want to be paying some more for your caddy if you want to keep your avis shares going?.
anyhow he promised to investigate, and call me back, I never goa a all back from him only a letter from the security dept. stating that "Avis has decided not to rent any vehicles to you any further".
a crazy conversation, a zany situation, but unfortunately no real answers.
By the way who says things have to make sense?

It would have saved us all a lot of time if you told us from the start that you were told the violation/problem on your 1st phone call from Avis. They told you that you were "attempting to evade the under 25 charges", in their opinion. Their opinion is all that matters. It's their car and their business. What is so difficult about giving us the entire story. I would find it highly unlikely that a security person at Avis had a sarcastic conversation about your Cadillac and your Avis European Shares. Have you ever found anyone at Avis to be knowledgable and polite? There has to be somebody. I get them all the time. There is nothing "crazy or zany" about your conversations with Avis. You signed their contract that says " I agree to return the car by the date indicated or SOONER ON YOUR DEMAND". They feel that you screwed them on the under 25 money, and you did not return the car on their demand, as per the contract. They don't want to do business with you anymore. That is their right. They are a private business. You are entitled to go find another company that meets your expectations.
p.s. Things usually do make sense. You don't get to be the #1 or #2 company in the world in any industry by being "crazy and zany"
I'll tell you what really does not make sense. Amex/Centurian is for cardholders that charge >$150k annually. When Avis called you, why didn't you just tell them to charge you the $100 under 25 fee? Everyone would have been happy. You had a great rate and a great upgrade. Instead, you made the poor decision to fight them over a lousy $100 bucks and you got thrown out. Make sense?
