I'd like to confirm this with a lawyer or CHP officer before using this as a defense on my next CA speeding ticket
, but if so, this is AWESOME. Never heard about this despite growing up in CA, but it makes total sense there!
Close, but not quite:

As for Texas, they have some stretches of rural Interstates set at 80:

So I got a call from National, following up my "unsatisfactory" review.
The lady was very nice, but she'd never heard of this MyKey thing.

As a contrast, my last two Hertz rentals (Chevy Cruze and Mazda 6) had one keyless unit with switchblade key and the corporate fob. That's it! Very welcome with the warmer weather and no jacket pocket into which to stick a huge mass of keys.

I have an Avis rental in YVR (Vancouver BC) right now which is a Hyundai (sp?) Accent with only one button-less key and no fob.

Hopefully not a useless bump but this thread was linked from a new thread about MyKey.
I got an Avis Ford in the fall with the MyKey but fortunately both keys were on the fused ring. One of the keys was programmed to limit the speed (to 66 mph, unwelcome on the roads I was going to be on that had 70 mph limits!) and the radio volume limited very low...evidently some previous renter must have programmed these absurd settings. Fortunately the other key was the "master key" and through playing with the settings on the "information center" on the dash, I was able to clear all MyKeys for the vehicle, no longer having to worry about using the right key. Hopefully future renters of the same car appreciated my efforts!
They really shouldn't be renting cars out that have that feature enabled--when I rent a car, I expect to be able to use the full functionality of the car!

Avis in Dubai (UAE) has had a speed alert in their cars for at least 15 years now. Even if the radio is blasting, you can still get annoyed by it.

If it's a newer Ford, it might be equipped with MyKey. Try using the other key on the ring (assuming they gave you both) - it may not be limited.

When I get more than one fob for any car, I have to remember to leave one of the fobs in my hotel or at home, so that the memory settings for the car will work properly. Memory seats, radio favorites, and other settings are tied to the fobs or keys for many car models, so if the settings are for driver one, but you use fob or key two, you will wonder why your settings are not working (same problem if you have both fobs in the car at the same time, the car will not know which fob signal to choose). This MIGHT be the problem you are experiencing with the speed limiter.
