At the end of the day, anyone who decides to partake in a promotion also has a responsibility to read its terms and conditions, even if they're not directly linked. This saves all parties involved major headache - the purchaser from having to fight for what he/she thinks is right and the agents from having to fight the purchaser for being wrong.

We're usually quite helpful in clarifying concerns about T&C according to our interpretation and experience but the onus is on the purchaser to RTFM and ask the right questions.

Give the guy some slack. If they bombard you and the web page with 100% promo, but hide in small print its only ofr people above 95 years of age, escorted by their parents- then would you blame average Joe?

Airlines change their mistake rates days and weeks after, so why shouldnt he- especially when somewhat mislead. Besides any reasonable interpretation on max 75 k + 75 k would lead a purchase of 100K to be 75+75+25 = 175K.

It's just like buying an non-refundable airline ticket expecting it to be refundable but he didn't read the fare rules. Unfortunately no 24-hour rule for Lifemiles...

Actually its nothing like that at all. Unless of course there were big letters stating refundable, and it turned out by some strange reason it wasnt.

Its fully understandable to cap a promo/sales, but there is absolutely no logic in not having the sales price up to the cap. Such illogical terms should be written very clearly. Especially so as we are dealing with a pro part vs consumers.

To me this is just common sense. To most developed legal systems this is legal sense as well. Deceptive marketing. Unfair results. Consumer issue.

This is a far better case, morally, than a 200$ ex-RGN F-fare.

I agree with this ^.

I have bought lifemiles a few times and had totally forgotten about the 75 limit. When he/she said they had an account before the promo, it took me a few minutes to realize why they didn't get a bonus.

I'm sure I make tons of mistakes in the mileage area, just glad they got a refund and hope my next mistake isn't a $3000 dollar one.

Fair enough. Didn't see no any T&C when I clicked through on the link.

Did anyone manage to buy 2 x the maximum in the same year?

e.g. can you buy 2 x 75 + 75 bonus = 300K or only 1 x 75 + 75 bonus = 150K in a calendar year?

Pretty sure the latter, but we'll see. So around 24 hours left.

I am positive that you are correct about how it has worked before. I would expect the same way of functioning this time too.

In a combination of accounts, I picked up another 300,000 Lifemiles miles -- which I will be redeeming within a few days .... to save beaucoup bucks/mucho money.

Yep, I am really really really praying they don't devalue since USDM is going bye bye.

I stopped buying miles because I don't see anymore a real value behind it. Prices are no longer competitive.

Actually the page https://www.lifemiles.com/eng/ear/tr...eepurproc.aspx doesn't have any limits. And I've ended up with 100k miles for $3k! I didn't even get the 75k bonus.
I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions what to do and who to contact now...

HOOOOOW can anyone make such a mistake? The website clearly says step by step how many miles one intents to buy and how much the bonus would be!
