But the agent added that currently you need to do two PCR tests at 48 and 24 hours beforehand (before landing?) so make sure that you can do that. She also suggested calling CI in BKK or emailing them [email protected].

Immigration in Tiapei will probably not stop you, I have done this many times before. But on occasion I had a bit of a hangup with the airline at the gate or lounge (SQ and CX) because the airport exit tax was not included on the ticket and they wanted that paid. When a transit passenger goes through Immigration it is somehow flagged in their system.
moondog says he's flying BKK-TPE-NRT, so this has nothing has to do with China.

You're right! In that case no big deal, just have a credit card handy at the gate if they ask to pay the aiprort tax!

Thanks, guys. I ended up calling CI in Taipei to confirm their official policy, and they advised me to book as multi-city/stopover (so as not to be recorded as a transit passenger in their system, though I wonder who would care) and all would be good. The price didn't change at all.

Sorry for the late report, we just wrapped up our RTW trip and Taiwan was the first stop, so info is from last weekend of October. Basically nothing to report. Business as usual in the country aside from wearing a mask. They hand you Covid Test kits when you land and then we took a test before heading out on a day trip first day we got there. We took a picture with timestamp of the negative test just in case, but no one asked us for anything at any time. We ate in restaurants, used public transit, etc. Everything is open. Only minor thing was that some side entrances on large buildings / hotels were closed off, maybe a holdover when they had to check everyone coming in.

We had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to recommend visiting.

Hi, can anyone please advise on the transit requirements at TPE when flying China Airlines (not entering Taiwan but transiting to another flight)? Are people still herded into a separate area, or do they now have access to the terminal/lounges etc? Thanks in advance.

You're free to walk around. The lounges might be closed or have random hours: https://news.china-airlines.com/bvct/VipLounge. Duty free stores are open as are some restaurants (both before and after security).

Also the dentist lost the election

The mask mandate is still supposed to be lifted in early December or something https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/4728700. Also the dentist lost the election
A few more things fading into history along the dentist tyrant
  • Outdoor mask mandate to be lifted December 1
  • More exemptions for indoor mask mandate
  • Arriving pax cap to be completely lifted December 10
Also, good to see the TW CDC has offered detailed definition for "indoor" and "outdoor" - any space that is enclosed on all sides (ceiling and walls) counts as indoor, otherwise counts as outdoor (such as a tent that is opened on one-side).

9 hours layover in Taipei

Just came back from KIX/TPE/SFO on CI with a 9 hours layover in TPE and went into Taipei on US passport.
All you need is to fill out the declaration form they hand out in the plane on arrival. For address in Taipei just use the flight information leaving TPE (in my case TPE/SFO) and show the boarding pass to the border control officer (I didnt know this. The officer fill out for me). Then off I go into taipei.
They will still give you the test kit but I didnt use them and brought them home.
The CI lounges are open with showers. I used the showers on my way to japan but when I tried to used them at night after my little sojourn into Taipei the showers were fully occupied with a long wait list. Taipei was 80 degree and humid 🙄.
Have fun.

Brains trust - I'm flying MEL > TPE and then onwards to Nagoya via a separate booking (4hr layover), with checked bags.

Does anyone foresee issues with having no hotel address during immigration, and no boarding pass for an outbound flight either (because need to check bags in again at TPE) ?

Thanks in advance!

Question for those that have recently visited...do you do 5 days of self-monitor in one location, and not go into public? I have a family member that just did that...but I was under the impression that self-monitor didn't mean "stay indoors and not go out".
