Thanks guys for some great suggestions. In Rio is it better to stay on Ipanema beach or Copacabana?

We stayed in Ipanema last time we went... but either will be a good choice. My favorite restaurant in Rio is Gero.... very nice upscale italian restaurant.

I stayed at the Best Western right on the beach. Adecquate, although nothing special.

eee, my sister got pickpocketed in her hotel elevator yesterday in BsAs. Got $130 and the key to her room.

Yes, I as posted last week, pickpockets love gringos. Which hotel did this happen in?

What about the safety in Rio? Is it something that should prevent us from going or is it exaggerated?
