Wine Tasting/Cheese Bars in BA?

Finally, just a couple more weeks before our big trip to BA. Now, my girlfriend is fanatical about wine tasting/cheese tasting bars--apparently there is one offered at the Alvear Palace on Thursday's called Taste Vins: http://www.alvearpalace.com/1024/ingles/r_taste.htm for which I am already obliged to indulge her.

Can anyone recommend any other wine tasting/cheese tasting bars in BA? Possibly in Palermo Viejo? Thanks!

The good news is that I leave for B.A. in 6 days :)

In the meantime....I still have questions! :D

Do you tip at restaurants and how much?

I just reviewed on online meu at www.puerto-cristal.com.ar. I wanted to verify -- prices with a "$" are Argentinian pesos. Yes? I thought 'possibly' since the menu was in English, the prices were in USD.

Thank U!

Below are some places that have a good selection of wines by the glass and will offer you cheese plates, etc.

Gran Bar Danzon
Bar Uriarte
Epicureos

If you ever get around to wanting to buy some bottles of very special wines to take back home (or have shipped back), please PM me for details.

Cheers,
Gaucho

Yes, tipping is customary in Argentina. For good service, I suggest you tip around 10-15%.

Ive reviewed the website and the menu details are actually the same on both sites... so, yes, the menu in English still shows you prices in Pesos.

I hope you have a great time in Argentina!!!! :D

I am POSITIVE we will :)

This is a 'sampling' trip (3 days/3 nights) with our parents along.

We already feel certain we will want to return on our own at the next opportunity.

I have really appreciated you (and everyone else) providing such great info here. Thanks

Southern Winds tickets

I have been trying to buy tickets BA - Iguazu online with Southern Winds for 3 days now. I digit all flight information and click Search but only some strange words show up.

Does someone know if the site has been down?

Is there any other budget alternative? I've tried American Falcon but the schedule is very limited.

Thanks for any information.

Danny

I just returned from my trip and would like to thank the person who recommended Posada de las Aguilas for my layover - it worked out perfectly. They picked us up at the airport and drove us the 3 miles to their location where they provided us with a room for the day and lunch. We took a nap and used the pool to relax between flights and were then driven back to the airport. All of this was provided for a very modest sum.

On our return trip were spent the day at Villa Maria. Another great place to consider spending the day. This is a beautiful facility with plenty to do and see. It should be considered by anyone wishing to get an experience of the county life around Buenos Aires.

Web pages for both locations are available.

Gaucho, it never ceases to amaze me how you find the time to give high quality replies to a high quantity of posts. Thanks for your answers....I may be in touch via pm as my parents are of the "Wine Spectator" crowd and if I have the desire I may pick em up a good bottle of wine you recommend.

Thanks for the kind words.

Feel free to contact me in case you need anything related to wine here... there are a couple of new Argentine entries into the 90+ category according to WS including the 2002 Vintage of Cobos... ^

This link worked for me: http://www.fly-sw.com/en/home.jsp

Could you please post a link for American Falcon.
Thanks

danaraujo Feb 3, 2005 5:27 pm

Hi USAFAN!

Thanks for the link. I've just bought my tickets to Iguazu. They cost more than I'd read somewhere in this thread, but much less than with Aeroripoff Argentinas.

Here is the American Falcon website:

danaraujo:

Thanks for posting the link. I could not find this airline with Google or Yahoo!?!

Here is the American Falcon website in english:

BTW, this falls are amazing - I have seen them from both sides (Arg & Bra).

Gaucho -- Can you give me some idea of the cost to ship a case from B.A. to U.S.? Thanks.

You started out with the wish "it's not important that you go to EZE, what's important is that go there and leave wanting to return". After an amazing two week tour of S America I can honestly say Buenos Aires has to come in as one of my top venues. Great climate, rich culture, fantastic value. BA has certainly etched a special place on my heart, and yes, I can't wait for an opportunity to return.
