Not doable.
And, the amazing thing is that not only is such a flight ticketable, you have some idiot travel agents around who actually say it is okay. |
+1. If the DL flight leaves at 2115, boarding will close at 2050, and there's no way you will be able to transfer and clear passport control in less than 30 minutes, even if your luggage goes through from FTE to ATL.

Thanks everyone. I was was able to change the dates of my trip around. I was fairly sure it wouldn't work, but needed some advice.
Thanks again! |

On your next trip try to book a room or condo without prepaying it. You will save substantially by paying in pesos. For example the rate at the Etoile is about $119 with a 24 hr cancellation policy. Changing your dollars in the blue market and paying in pesos it would end up costing about $85/night.;)

I'd strongly recommend going the apartment route. Even before the peso went into freefall, rental prices were pretty much absurdly cheap, at least if you used a local, "non-gringo" agency and paid in cash. Last time I did that, I rented a pad in Recoleta for US$350. Per week. For a penthouse with a jaw-dropping view!
- From the US, I only find online sites ask for payment in USD, and not in pesos. Is there a way around this to pay in pesos? - I would love to rent from "a local, "non-gringo" agency and paid in cash", either online or when I am in Buenos Aires. What are some agencies I can contact? |

I'll be visiting Buenos Aires from the US this November, and would like to learn more.

I am not really into the real estate market, but short term rentals are usually for gringos, hence US dollars are expected.
Local, non-gringo rentals work in pesos, but they are long term, and more formal rules apply (a contract is signed, a local guarantor is required). |
On the other hand, should you decide to stay in a hotel you should not have a problem avoiding prepayment and you will definitely be able to pay in pesos.

As Eastbay 1K said I suspect any short term lets which may be paid in pesos will be priced to match the official exchange rate.....we're not daft down here you know. :D If they aren't they're probably best avoided. |
Evicting tenants is not the most straightforward process in Argentina, so if a landlord lets a flat "informally" (as is the case in most touristic, AirBnB-like rentals) he/she is expecting a much bigger profit (USD or pesos at the blue rate), otherwise it doesn't make real sense.
On the other hand, I know of many people who get their pesos at a cueva (blue rate) and pay for their hotels in cash. That's OK and it's pretty easy to do. |

Heading to BA in late December with my dad for his 60th bday for 5 days/4 nights. Planning on staying at the Hotel MIO. Seems most of other properties I looked at are sold out/very expensive (Park Hyatt, Four Seasons, etc.) Plan on doing some walking tours, day trip via fast ferry to Colonia and wine tasting. Other things I have planned is San Telmo art fair, cemetery tour, etc.
- Anyone have experience/comments on the hotel MIO? - Recc for a great steak dinner in Recoleta/Polermo, city center, etc? I will check out the F&B thread. - Recc on wine tours/wine tastings (I heard about Anuva) - Any good Tango Shows worth going to? - Any good off the beaten path/ not super touristy things that I should consider doing with my dad during my time there? |

It makes a San Francisco or Berkeley eviction seem like a cakewalk. There's a saying, something to the effect of "don't rent to anyone who can't be deported."

Anuva is OK for a standard wine tasting, but it depends on what you are looking for. For a proper "experience" you will have to look further.
If you want to concentrate on boutique producers that have no US distribution, or if you have an above average interest in Wines, you need to seek out a true specialist that can offer you both the product and advice that no mainstream commercial operation offers. Feel free to PM me for further details.
