Apologies if the question has been asked earlier (I am sure it has..but cannot locate any recent response) but has the level of petty crime increased substantially in Buenos Aires? I was over there June 2011 and I felt fairly safe. Indeed walked during day and night (in the centre), took a few cabs, and had no safety concerns.

This may have changed since then but I would imagine that as long as one has common sense and avoid flashy things and having mobile phones on the restaurant table, should be OK, right?

Thanks heaps
Jorge

Yes! I went 2 years ago and it Palermo/Recoleta/Belgrano are very safe neighborhoods

As long as you take all the normal precautions and use common sense you shouldn't worry. My best advice would be try not to look like a tourist. Also try not to use your mobile phone on the street and if you do hold it with both hands - thieves on motorcycles ("motochorros") are known for grabbing phones from the hands of the users without even dismounting. They are very skillfull, the porteņo thieves.

Thanks! I am from Spain myself so I probably look less like a tourist than from other blonder countries :) Hopefully speaking the language (even if with a different accent) should help.

Cheers

I walk around with two phones all the time and never hold my phone with two hands.... unless I want to play a two handed backhand at pingpong with my Iphone I cant see how the heck I would do that anyway !!!!

Unless you are in the wrong part of town, I think that there is no need to worry about your cellphone, even if its an Iphone or the latest Samsung Galaxy. Have the usual precautions and use common sense, and you will be OK.

Hi Marambio, Thanks for all of your contributions in the Argentina threads of late. I think you provide and accurate account of all things BsAs and find your writing style very refreshing and informative. This was written in August 2015 and supports your claim of the existence of motochoros and petty theft that occurs in BsAs and in Argentina:

https://www.quora.com/I-have-heard-t...t-Is-that-true

I travel quite often to BsAs, am street smart (Grew up in NYC, live in Los Angeles) and nothing has ever happened to me. But a Buddy (a prominent Winemaker in Mendoza did tell me an acount of him being robbed of his Rolex at Gunpoint while at a Cafe in Recoleta (so it even happens from time to time to the Nationals as well) This is not specifically an Argentina thing, it happens world wide these days. But the link is specific to issues in BsAs and Argentina..

Thanks and Safe Travels

Safety/Security-wise, I always find the UK Foreign Office's Travel Advices very accurate: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/argentina

I haven't found a recent answer or something up-tp-date for this question...

Is there a place or any sort of method to store luggage for a day? I will be in EZE for probably most of the daytime, but I want to explore the city without lugging around my carry-on (safety/security reasons). Thanks!

Get in touch with the airport operators through this page. If you're out of luck then I'm sure Tienda Leon will store your luggage at their base in Buenos Aires if you use them for your transfer.

Are there any sports bars that you can recommend to watch the next "superclasico" if one can not be at the stadium?

Did the research while in Buenos Aires last week. The place I found is Locos por el Futbol (locosxelfutbol.com.ar) at Las Heras 2101.

Theere used to be a Locos x el futbol in Caballito on Rivadavia but it closed 7/8 years ago . I thought the company had gone bankrupt but obviously it still exists.

Some Argentine business don't go bankrupt, they simply vanish in the night. Some of the same players may establish another business, even with a similar name, or different players may establish a similar business in the same site as the vanished business. No idea what occurred with this futbol local.

The place was empty for atime and then it became an Audi car showroom I think.

Ended watching the game in a private house so can't comment on the place. Maybe next time but curious if somebody else has been there.
