For an interesting visit of BA and its suburbs, if you have the time, take the No. 8 bus from Av de Mayo to the airport. It took 2 hours, wasn't crowded at midday and cost a mere 5.50 pesos each. Fascinating loops and we were on Av Rivadavia until 11700 Rivadavia. Close to an hour on Rivadavia alone. We were fascinated!

I just booked a trip to Argentina. Unfortunately the travel there is going to be rough. My wife and I are booked: YYC - YYZ - SCL - EZE then we have to change airports to catch a domestic to Mendoza!

But sounds like a beautiful place to visit. And hopefully closer to my departure I can find a kind soul with spare eupgrades that he/she is willing to use to help us out.

I had to book my flight from EZE to MDZ on Aerolineas. I read some of the past posts on this thread, did I make a huge mistake picking this airline?? I didn't see any other option for the time of day I was arriving (and I'm changing airports unfortunately, 3:20 from touch down at EZE to takeoff at AEP).

You didn't say what time you are arriving at EZE and time of day can make a big difference. However, your Aerolineas flight will probably to late or cancelled anyway. When I was at EZE Wed morning, 5 early morning Aerolineas flights were cancelled or delayed. Is there a possibility of fly from SCL to Mendoza? Or, seriously, have you thought about taking the bus from BsAs to Mendoza. I did it once to avoid Aerolineas and really enjoyed the trip. The service is ultra deluxe by US standards with dinner, sleeper seats and breakfast.

We arrive at 15:30 on a Friday. I tried looking into SCL to MDZ but couldn't make it happen. I'm not looking forward to such a long travel day but I only have a limited time to see Mendoza and BA before I have to get back to work. Hopefully things work out.

Hey all, i have the following question i am travelling from Amsterdam to Asuncion in late august next year and i have been offered a connection with KL and AR via EZE with an 1 hour and 25 min is the doable?I have been told by klm that i will be checked in all the way to ASU so i dont have to recheck in EZE.I am travelling with my cats in the hold and i was wondering if that connection time would be oke(KL assures me it is) and how does AR usually handle pets?

Remember that extra 20% charge off flights coming out of Argentina? Starting today, it's 35%.

As a native Argentine who left some 50 years ago, I find it interesting to see that tourism is finally waking up to the wonderful things that our country has to offer. I have no problem with bringing those Dollars into the country to balance the debt, I do however, find disturbing this new 35% surcharge law that just came into effect that ALL Argentines have to pay when they want to travel abroad. This does not only apply to plane tickets but to ALL monies spent overseas, whether using a credit card or an ATM the CC companies are compelled to tack on the additional 35%. I find this to be an innovative way to fleece the traveling population, and if there was any redeeming value to it (ie. put to good use) I may not be so revolted by it. But WE know where this money is going....don't we ????

I am a well documented critic of this K regime, but to be precise, the 35% surcharge is actually an advance on your income tax return, and can be applied against both Personal Income Tax and Personal Asset Tax (Bienes Personales). Im my case, I don't mind paying this because it is only a cash-flow thing for me because I will get it all credited when I file my personal return... the same should be the case for all Argentine residents that have their tax situation in order.

This is, however, a pure tax (and constitutes a true cost/surcharge) for those that, having incomes that allow them to travel and spend abroad do not file, or severely under-file their incomes to AFIP. I agree that the various Argentine governments have a rich history of not putting public funds to proper/good use, but, it is only fair to say that endemic tax evasion is quite widespread here...... needless to say, two wrongs don't make a right. I am convinced that any resident of a country has a right to complain about how Government spends public money, but at the same time you have to be in lawful compliance with your tax situation - else you are just as bad as the Government with it misspends public funds.

I pray that the Good Lord will relieve us of these K folks as soon as possible, but please after KK finished her mandate until the last day, as established by the Constitution.

Sorry nick-sake, but I don't have to pay Ganancias or Bienes (I don't earn that much) and never saw a $ back. Have many accountant friends that say it's impossible to get "extent" status.
They should charge it on whoever should pay it, not from everybody and then pick who'll get it back.

Looking for hotel recommendations, probably in the Recoleta area. Specifically ones with a good western style breakfast buffet. My wife is Gluten Intolerant, and "continental" breakfasts of coffee and pastry won't cut it for her. Wifi is also important, and a US King size bed would be nice.

Anyone know what the breakfast is like at the Etoile Hotel?

We've had a great two week stay here and the information from this site (and some helpful emails from Gaucho) helped my trip planning a lot. I thought would share some of our highlights:

Shoes: Lots of choice but Correa wins in a walkover. Two tiny shops across the street from each other (men and women). They utililize the latest 18th century technology in handmaking everything. Email first and find out when someone who speaks English will be around (Julia helped us, but she does clerical work). Master craftsmen.

There is a lot of really cool graffiti around. We took a tour. There are several, but we took the one from Graffiti Mund�. Prints from some of the artists available at Hollywood in Cambodia on Thames (we bought some).

San Telmo market. Very touristy but great fun.

Modern art / contemporary art museum (in San Telmo) good collections of Latin American artists.

There are loads of restaurants to try and I've listed them here, so I won't repeat myself.

Ice cream. Spoiled for choice. The best was across the street from Recoleta cemetery on Quintana (can't remember the name).

Subte/subway was very easy to use and at 3.5 pesos, quite a bargain.

Can I know if that time of the year will be peak season? Since I started monitoring last month, the air fare has been increasing.

Where are you flying from..? December is peak season for ex EZE travel, and depending on the time of the month it will also be high season from almost everywhere.....
