To hopefully make this interchange a bit more informative, perhaps you can comment as to why there is little ethnic food in Argentina. I have noticed that as well. When I am in Argentina I really enjoy the food, however after 10 days or so, I start to get a little board from Meats, Pasta, Pizza, Empanadas etc.. ( Basically Argentine and Italian ). Sarkis seems to be the best alternative from what I know regarding Middle Eastern food ( I enjoy that allot ) besides the Comida China spots I know in Chinatown ( Thanks Dan Pearlman ).. There are not that many choices that I came across of. Now I did hear of an Ethnic Puerto Cerado ( Jewish Grandma type , but have lost track of the spot ) Anyway. Perhaps we can share some personal spots that may help us all out. Thanks and Safe Travels..

The Indian place Delhi Masala - Defensa 714 (San Telmo) was perfectly not bad (based upon a single visit). The waitress was from Colombia and when I emphasized that I wanted "picante, picante, no Argentina picante" she said she'd let the kitchen know, and one dish actually had a fair amount of heat.

If you read the F&B Argentina thread, you'll see that a few of us have loved El Baqueano. Of course, this isn't "ethnic" in the sense you are speaking of, but the food couldn't be more native Argentina. And it is quite different from the "comida tipica" of the city.

Most Argentines are very conservative when it comes to eating habits.... Sushi has taken a very long time to catch on and in general, ethnic cuisine in the sense we are using on this thread is considered a high-end product and is normally consumed by the better-off segments of society, generally those that are able to travel internationally, etc.

Mainstream Argentines do not normally explore with their foods, so the bottom line is that the market is not there, and getting all the required ingredients for seriously ethnic cooking is not a simple task. ChinaTown near the Belgrano area has helped a lot, but its still a far cry to what you will get in a food lovers paradise city like SFO or NYC, to use two North American examples.

Its unfortunate, but, in the ethnic foods department.... EZE is very, very pedestrian. I don't see this changing much in the short term, perhaps my kids and their generation will be able to have more of an offering but Im not keeping my fingers crossed.......

Yes you've summed it up very well.

To be honest I can live without the restaurants as I enjoy cooking but getting hold of the ingredients is the biggest problem.

Stop being such a whiner... you travel often enough to be able to bring all you need to cook from when you are in the US or back in the Empire. Now, if youre too lazy to pack and schlep the stuff back, then its your own fault...

About 1/4 of the way through the thread, already have lots of useful info. Thanks.

Plan on being in BA over Thanksgiving week for 8 days (arrive 11/22, leave 11/30). Wondered if this was feasible (or even if its recommended):

First 5 days in BA. On fifth day fly to FTE for two nights, three days. Fly back to EZE, spend night in nearby EZE hotel. Wake up and EZE to MIA.

I think only AR has a day flight EZE/MIA (if they even still have one) - so most would say bag that idea on the return. Also, there is little lodging near EZE, and nothing with free airport transportation. Most domestic flights are served by AEP, which is near the city center.

I would suggest that you either spend the final night @ FTE, then fly to AEP and take inter-airport transit to EZE (allow yourself a cushion of at least 4 hours) and fly home that night, or fly to AEP the prior afternoon, spend a nice evening in the city, and then head to EZE the following late afternoon/evening (depending on your flight time).

If for some reason you are flying FTE/EZE and want to stay out there, there is a Holiday Inn several KMs from the airport with an array of nothing to do nearby.

What's the latest situation with AEP? Are any aurlines getting kicked out? I don't remember the full story but I thought there was some concern that LAN or Aerolinias was getting booted.

Aerolineas Argentinas the airline that eats tax payers money were trying to get Lan booted out......nothing happened as yet. Hopefully never will.
