I'm looking to book some flights and wanted to know if anyone had any travel agent recommendations.

Buenos Aires to Iguazu Falls (RT)
Buenos Aires to Mendoza (RT)

Cheers!

Great thread! Thanks Gaucho and everyone else who has contributed!

After reading 171 pages (my heads spinning), I still have a few questions.

1) I know Argentina is known for it's meat, but being a semi-vegetarian (never been a fan of meat, but occasionally eat chicken), I'm wondering if the steak houses mentioned in this thread offer non-meat entrees as well. If not, could someone perhaps recommend a few non-meat focused restaurants?

2) I've noticed a lot of recommendations for hotels and apartments mentioned in the thread, but I'd really like to stay at a small B&B. My price range is under $55 US a night (if possible)... Any recommendations?

3) This is my first trip to Buenos Aires. I will be traveling with my spry 82 year old father and we will be there for 10 days this November. I'm wondering if anyone could recommend a nice relaxing day (or over night) trip. (fyi: Neither of us are wine drinkers and I don't think my dad is up for hiking or walking on glaciers.)

Thanks for the info!!!!!!

Dont worry... almost every restaurant will have a no-meat option... chicken, pasta and even some 100% vegetarian options will be available.

Stopover in EZE - IGU visit?

I'll be going to USH in late January. I have some flexibility in dates. I think (not sure) I might be able to get an award ticket from SEA-EZE. If so, then I have the problem of a second paid ticket on Aerolineas Argentina - separate PNR, no protection if I'm delayed. So I'm considering possibly adding a day or two stopover in BA as a cushion against delays.

I've been to Mendoza (on my way to Aconcagua). I'm not a solo nightlife person, so I can't think of much I'd be interested in except IGU.

Any suggestions?

I'm a 'budget' traveller - hostels and very inexpensive lodging - rather spend the money on tickets and food/wine.

I think that a 1 night stopover in EZE is a good thing.... shake off the jetlag with some dead cow & vino tinto.... If you stay at a hostel then the economics of one night stopover should be manageable.

Aside from Iguazy... have you been to El Calafate or Salta/Jujuy..?? Some great sights at both locations... ^

BA Advice

Dear Gaucho100k and BA experts,

I am planning a trip to BA sometime in 2010 (either April or November, depending on what my work schedule will permit). Have a few questions - if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

1) I am really looking for the urban Latin American experience, and also looking to take Spanish classes (I have already started them at home - looking for an intense experience). I have found Argentina I.L.E.E. online which specializes in classes for adults - http://www.argentinailee.com/
wondering if anyone knew anything about this place or had any other suggestions?

2) Apartments - looking to rent an apartment for somewhere between 1 and 2 weeks. I have heard mixed reviews on various services, getting deposits back etc etc. Wouldn't mind paying a little premium for a no nonsense reliable service that I can trust. Any suggestions?
Also, where is the best area to stay in? Recoleta? San Telmo?

3) Good option to get away for a more quaint experience? I was thinking wine tasting in Mendoza? Whats better that or the Iguazu falls? Any suggestions?

Thanks and best regards

You can have a great time down here My responses...

No suggestions, never used one of the language schools
Recoleta is the most tourist-friendly neighborhood, but you can find better deals in the other neighborhoods. San Telmo, Palermo, and Belgrano are all good ones.
Iguazu is the first choice (see my recent post), especially if you come in April, the water may be a bit lower in November due to seasonal rainfall. Mendoza, Jujuy, Corrientes, Rosario, Ushuaia, Salta and other cities can all be interesting, if you can explain what you're looking for we can make more specific recommendations.

KurtD - thanks so much for your quick response. I guess I am looking for a culture based / relaxed get away - not a big nature buff , but would love a quaint town, cafes, picturesque streets etc - also the whole wine bodegas sounds like it might be fun - as long as its not the whole Napa hardcore touristy thing to do.

For apartment rentals.... I suggest renting from

Buenos Aires Habitat, or
ApartmentsBA

These are the top 2 companies in Buenos Aires for top quality apartments.

Are you staying at a full service hotel or at an apartment...? If you have a Concierge Service, they should be able to set you up with somebody. The good private guides are booked well in advance... if you want to try to contact one of these guides that I know, please PM me and I will send you details.
