You really can't expect anyone to answer this question. How did you find this apartment, have you dealt with her before? Is it an agency or just some craig list add? Do you need three bedroom? How many weeks are you renting? As far as San Telmo is concerned, despite the hype, it is not the best rental area. 500 week for three bedrooms in Recoleta, Puerto Madero or Palermo might not be high ( although on the high end unless great place) In San Telmo it must be something special..

What do you mean I can't expect anyone to answer this question!?! Why, do you have a place to offer me?? We are staying one week and YES, we do need a three bedroom. And well, by the pictures and description it looks like a really nice, first class place. I found the website on Flyertalk and it's called, apartmentsba.com. I suspect they are a reputable agency (by what I have read only), but I just wanted to know if the $600 cash deposit was routine? Thanks for your input.

ApartmentsBa is a very well established and highly reputable company, its the premiere address for high-end apartment rentals in Buenos Aires. I would have no reservations in dealing with them. A security deposit is standard operating procedures in these cases.

I didn't think it would be a problem, but I just wanted some reassurance from someone who might know first hand. I think we'll go with them. Last time, I stayed in Recoleta, but this time I wanted to experience a different area and San Telmo is the most reasonable (for a really nice place) and that is close to the Microcenter.

Because if you read your original post, you did not mention apartments ba or any other agency. You said " the woman" You were asking us if "the woman" was reputable and that your deal was safe and reliable. How could you expect anyone to answer that? Sorry if my answer trouble you but I stand by it.

when asking about an apartment in BA the title Apartments BA hardly refers to a company apartmentsba.com nor did you say that you were dealing with an agency. You merely said "the woman" i am dealing with.
p.s closer than Recoleta to what "microcenter", and there is a reason that the apartment in San telmo are cheaper. If that is what you want rent in Congresso it will be even cheaper.. but you get what you pay for.

Palermo is a great place to stay. Not sure what your precise definition of a B&B is... I say this because Buenos Aires has B&Bs in many different categories, some are more upscala and other are the standard B&B with basic services and very much budget oriented. If you care to provide us with a little more info. on what sort of budget you are looking at per night, Im sure we can point you in the right direction.

B&B in Buenos Aires
I hear Palermo Viejo is a great area to stay in, so I think we are hoping to find a nice (e.g good location, comfortable, friendly) B&B for less than US$100 per night. I have received 2 suggestions, Posada Palermo and La Otra Orilla, so any info, thoughts etc would be appreciated.

I dont know La Otra Orilla, but Ive heard positive reviews for Posada Palermo. Apart from the info. that other travelers will be able to give you here, you may want to check over on TripAdvisor which has also has a ton of information and reviews.

Kill a cow!
Lay in a couple cases of good Argentina wine, we are coming back to Buenos Aries in Sept.
I picked up 8 nights at the IC for 5K points per night 40K, and 2 tickets on UA for 100K (DTW-IAD-EZE) back in March when they were running IC Buenos Aries on the PC 5K pointbreak.
I would like to know if there will be any problems walking this area at night? Say to or from San Telmo or the metro. I have walked this area during the day on my last visit 2004 (and most of the city) with no problem.
Also during our stay we are planning a day trip to Montevideo using Buquebus. Is it better to take the fast ferry to Colonia and the bus or the direct fast ferry to Montevideo and pay the higher rate? I have looked at the schedule and rates on http://www.buquebus.com for specials but I do not want the tour and lunch just round trip. Early ferry out and last one back.

twobyte-- Glad to read you are returning to Buenos Aires. I always say its great when folks come here to visit, but its even better when they choose to return. Its a great compliment to the city that visitors will come back for more... ^
As for walking around the IC in the evenings, if you use common sense applicable to any large city - you will be OK. Having said that, the IC is relatively close to the microcentro area and at nights there is less traffic and some streets are darker than others, so be aware of your surroundings and you will be fine.
On the Montevideo trip... if you ask me I would just use the fast ferry, its less hassle. However, if you like to save a few $$$ to spend on other things and dont mind the transfer, then why not go with the cheaper option? If you like to see more of Uruguay, then the Bus ride may give you that so thats also something to consider.... I dont think the bus ride will be especially scenic but you will certainly see more of the country that way.

Isn't there still a UA flight that goes from EZE - MVD?
Maybe it's a seasonal flight. I flew from EZE - MVD for $83, roundtrip, this past summer (Jan '07).
