Shakira wasn't as internationally popular back then as she is now, however. I don't know if your rumor was true either way.

Shakira was never the kind of star in Argentina she has been elsewhere (not like in the US, Europe, the Middle East, and the northern parts of South America).

Our trip to Buenos Aires last month inspired me. Here's a short video I did:

That was a great video. Really enjoyed it.

Here's a link to some cheap travel deals. I don't have any experience with this outfit but their fares look good.

Interesting... thanks for the heads up. The best test for these discounters is to see what a ticket goes for during the peak season (xmas, etc.).

More transport information can be found here in English along with a list of useful phone numbers (which will generally require communicating in Spanish):

New service to EZE?

Someone posted on another board that US Airways has filed an application to begin service to Buenos Aires and Montevideo. I have been unable to confirm this, but if true, they would probably fly out of Philadelphia or Charlotte.

I highly doubt this. US doesn't have any spare widebodies that it could fly to EZE. Since US carriers fly the route with two planes, I don't see how it would be done.

I wondered about this as well. I work for US Airways and I know we don't have spare wide bodies hanging around so the plan may be to use 757's on the routes. Again, its total rumor at this point.

If we did start service, I'm sure it would be non stop to BA, then maybe thru service to Montevideo.

Gaucho100K Jan 24, 2007 2:59 am

Can a 757 make it to EZE from the USA without refueling?

gaucho99 Jan 24, 2007 6:16 am

Here's a link. From what I can tell, US is renewing an earlier application to fly down there, so I think their intentions are to start service....may or may not be anytime soon.

That is interesting — especially since I earned US Airways Dividend Miles on the United Airlines flight between Montevideo and Buenos Aires.

I may be wrong, but this seems redundant from a Star Alliance point of view.

Now, from a oneworld alliance or SkyTeam alliance point of view, this would be a different story...

Gaucho100K Jan 24, 2007 1:39 pm

US Airways is part of Star Alliance...?? Wow, this goes to show how much an ex-frequent flyer Ive become.... :D

So, I gather a 757 has enough range to fly with a full load of pax cargo & fuel from the USA to EZE?
