So, I gather a 757 has enough range to fly with a full load of pax cargo & fuel from the USA to EZE?[/QUOTE]

I just checked and a standard 757-200 has a range of 7,275 KM or about 4,500 miles so I guess it would not work to BA. Possibly the route could begin contingent on new A/C orders.

Gaucho100K Jan 24, 2007 2:21 pm

Hmmm.... what about if they fly non-stop to GRU, maybe the 757 can do that?

gaucho99 Jan 24, 2007 4:04 pm

The same source that first mentioned the potential new service on US Airways to EZE told me he has heard US is getting five Airbus A-330's from Swiss Air. They have a seating capacity of 266 and enough range to fly non-stop to BA.

I think I will change my FlyerTalk name to Gaucho101 or gaucho98 and join in on this discussion.

Can a 757 make it to EZE from the USA without refueling?

I do a lot of international long-haul flights on 757s (US to Europe and back), and it's no fun. Even from Miami to EZE, if it was allowed, I wouldn't recommend it. US won't be able to pull that off from PHL or CLT without doing some kind of intermediate stop.

In any event, I'm just glad that more North American carriers are flying to EZE nowadays than was even the case before the AR$'s de-dollarization.

The US Airways application is apparently only a renewal of it's existing authority to codeshare with UA on the US-EZE/MVD route. Argentina is a restricted entry market for US carriers and currently all authorities are being utilized.

If you read part 4 it says the application is to start service of their own should market conditions warrant it. So, I think their intention is to fly their own route down there. I don't know how the restricted entry comes into play....maybe that is holding it up.

Gaucho99, I got my information from airliners.net where there is a thread discussing the application, with comments from posters who seem knowledgeable about the nature of this particular application.

Saludos!

You are right. Argentina limits service to their country to four US carriers and with UA, DL, AA and CO, the allottment is being used. So unless they release the restriction, US can't fly there.

The Complete Guide To Real Estate Investment In Argentina

Michael Koh's website that you found http://www.apartmentsba.com/ has an excellent account of the real estate purchase process in Argentina. I bought a property several years ago, and I wished I'd had the benefit of such background information at the time. It seems that anybody can be a real estate agent in Argentina, so don't expect them to know what the appropriate laws are that you need to follow.

You guys might be interested to know about a book I've just bought called "The Complete Guide To Real Estate Investment In Argentina" by Simon Fawkes. It covers not only the laws in great detail but explains how people will use false or incomplete knowledge of it to exploit you. It's a brilliant book and comprehensively covers a whole bunch of other stuff about real estate in Argentina which I haven't come across properly anywhere else. As I'm about to buy an apartment in BA the advice it's given me is invaluable. The ISBN is 1430303980 and there are more details on Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1430303980. I would say this is an essential read for anyone considering buying property in Argentina.

Private tour guide

I will be in BsAs for a couple of days in late February, with my mother who has limited walking capabilities. Can you suggest a tour service who might offer private tours of the city at a reasonable (?) price?

Gracias!

How would you rate BA for the solo traveler? Is there enough to see and do for, say, a week without boredom setting in?

There's plenty to do in and around Buenos Aires to spend a week without boredom setting in. If after three or four days in the city proper you think you've got nothing left of interest to do, there's always a day trip to the countryside, going to Colonia and/or Montevideo in Uruguay and/or taking another intra-Argentina trip, even if by bus.
