You know, one thing I do when I'm travelling alone and get overwhelmed with what to do next... is to go sit in an outdoor cafe for long periods of time and just people watch. Or go for aimless walks at a slower pace through the city streets. Gain eye contact with people, say hello. Talk to dog owners and children.

I think so... there are many museums, galleries (of all styles), parks & sights that cover just about all interests. If you could be a little more specific about what you like perhaps we can assist you further. Also, please give us an indication of when your trip would be.

If you are a sports fan, perhaps a visit to a soccer match will also be of interest.

I'm thinking about the first week in May. Soccer would be good. So would museums, historical places ... and, simply, places to sit and eat and have a drink and watch people.

Surprise surprise, I have another question regarding my first trip to Argentina.

So my outbound to Argentina will include USA->EZE->AEP->IGR on the first day. My question is related to another trip a few days later: IGR->AEP->FTE

We will arrive AEP at 12pm on a LAN airlines flight, and have a scheduled Aerolineas Argentinas flight at 3:50pm. Looks like we have plenty of time to connect, especially since LAN flights are typically on time and AR flights seem to be often delayed.

Once we get into AEP, we'll try to check our bags for our next flight if it's possible. Obviously we have more than enough time to venture into the city, get lunch, and then head back to the airport. But this is our first venture into Buenos Aires -- and it will be a quick one too.

Given that this will be our first time in the city, can you give any suggestions on some good places to go and grab some lunch, and do some walking around? We may have luggage in hand if they don't allow us to check bags 4 hours before the flight.

We are all meat eaters too. :)

What carriers are your respective flights on...? I doubt you will be able to check your bags at AEP if your flight leaves from EZE, but I may be wrong.

We're not flying out of EZE. We're landing in AEP, picking up our bags, checking in at the Aerolineas counter (ideally), and then venturing our in the city for the first time.

We have only a few hours in the city to have lunch and walk around, but we will be back to visit Buenos Aires for a longer period of time at the end of our trip.

What's the closest good salad restaurants to 950 Cordoba Avenue that's open for lunch? (A group of Indians will be enjoying the Argentine experience on the Indian government paisa/dime.)

cornellalum-- In that case, Im fairly confident that checking in your bags will not be a problem. Collect your bags after the LAN flight and head to the Aerolineas counters.

Considering you have some 2.5 to 3 hours, I would suggest you hop on a taxi and head to puerto madero, where you can have lunch and also walk around a bit. Ive recently heard good things about Chila, but there are plenty of other options. Just stay away from Cabaña Las Lilas.

GUW-- Considering there guys are on "corporate expense accounts", I would think that you could just do lunch at the Four Seasons or Park Hyatt. The good thing at these venues is that they can surely improvise a couple of vegetarian dishes even if they dont have something thats strictly vegetarian on their menus. Your location of Cordoba 950 puts you in decent range of either of these locations, youre looking at a 10-12 minute cab ride at max.

There are tons of eateries near your mentioned address, but I dont think they would be a good choice for your out of town visitors. I think that a large international hotel will have them at be at ease and enjoy their meal in the best possible way.

BTW, it just occured to me that you could have your assistant contact one of these hotels in advance and have them prepara a special lunch menu for you, Im sure they will be able to accomodate you.

I know one of the Concierges at the Four Seasons that is trustworthy and can put you in touch with her if you need to arrange this.

My wife and I will be in Buenos Aires for a 12 hour layover. I'd like to get a car and driver for the day and see what we can of the city. Neither of us speak Spanish, so any recommendation for an English or French speaking driver is appreciated.

Well our itinerary is nearly finalised, we have decided to fly to BA from AKL on AA as we can get a good deal on the Visit Argentina pass with AA. We will then be flying TAM in Brazil.
We are just ion the process of sorting out our land arrangements.
One query I have, and have been given conflicting advice, is about infant car seat laws in both Argentina and Brazil, I can not find this infomation through a Google search! One would assume since there is no seatbelts for infants on BA then the rules of Argentina will be suitable relaxed and do not need a car seat? My travel agent had 'kittens' when I told her not to worry about getting a big vehicle for us as we were carrying our baby on our laps so it has prompted this search!
I did not want to go to the trouble of taking a car seat everywhere with us only to find out there were no rear seat belts to afix it to.
Does anyone know if there are laws, and do infants need to be in carseats in Argentina and/or Brazil?? Some countries the laws are relaxed for taxis and private car hire.

Real seat belts will be available in just about any vehicle you rent. Child seat laws are basically not enforced in Argentina, Im afraid I dont know about how this works in Brazil.
