Free Student Advantage Discount Card

One of the very first posts in this thread talked about a loophole that allows you to receive a free student advantage discount card:

"Lastly, if you're a student, go to http://studentadvantage.com/enrollment and enter any Amtrak ticket number as the promotion code: voila, free card - and 20% off - for a year. After the year, you can always do it again; this loophole has worked at least twice in a row now."

Does anyone know if this still works? If it does, I need an Amtrak ticket number from a stub so I can get a student advantage discount card. This would be sooo helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I plan on traveling from Birmingham, MI to West Glacier, MT on July 22, returning July 31. There will be three total people traveling. I have tried a number of codes, but cannot get one to work. Does anyone have suggestions??

H459 did work, but required the signature of a HS counseler.

And in later posts, it says that this loophole no longer works...sorry...

I live in the UK and until a short time ago did not know you could get discount codes for Amtrak. I am looking to travel in September from Chicago to Toronto then a few days later from Toronto to NYC. Not sure if this is the correct forum and apologies if it is not, but wondered if anybody had any discount codes for when I book my tickets online (and is this the cheapest way or is it cheaper to buy on the day?). thanks

Crescent Hot Deal?

What happened to the Crescent 70% off deal?

My girlfriend and I were going to be able to travel from GNS to NOL and back for well under $200... now it's back up over $350!

If any of you know of any deals or information, please help! My first vacation in years is in jeopardy!

V626

Oh well . . . looks like V626 is no longer accepted online. It was good while it lasted!

V626 still works. It may not work on the web site, but if you call it does. Note that it will not work July 1-4.

V626 still works

You won't be able to apply the code online, but if you call, and get a helpful agent (like I did), it will still save you money.

Thanks, dpatil@yahoo.

I was able to input the code for myself, but not for my son. When booking tickets from SAN to SEA, though, it doesn't seem to have made a difference. I'll have to go back and check the fine print. Maybe it has to be travel on days when the home team is actually at home! :)

Whose bright idea was it to disable booking promo codes on the Amtrak.com site? Are any promo codes bookable online? Even the automated voice booking process ("JULIE") does not take them.

I had to route my call to a live agent to book my ticket. Something that I will now have to do every week. 15 minutes of my time; 15 minutes of Amtrak's time.

This is not the kind of business decision that a company fighting for its financial existence should undertake.

v626 not working

I tried making a reservation over the phone (talking to an agent) but he wouldn't let me use V626 -- apparently it's for travel to/from Rhode Island only. I explained that although I've never been to RI, I've been using this code consistently for six months. That argument didn't seem to impress him.

I got used to paying 20% less, so now it feels like they just raised the fare. Which makes me think about how much Amtrak sucks. Whenever I talk to customer service, their explanation for everything is "well thats how it works on a plane." But Amtrak is not in the air travel business. If that is their corporate culture, no wonder no one rides the train anymore.

Does anyone want to take over this thread?

Greetings All,

I was just wondering if anyone wanted to take over the upkeep of this thread? It's got over 300 posts on it & it may be time to start a new thread. If anyone is interested, please post here or PM me. To take it over, you would just have to copy what I already have in the first post and start a new thread. I would update the main page with a link to the new thread.

I started this thread since I used to go up to NYC a lot from DC, but I don't travel on Amtrak as much any more. I used to travel a bit on the NEC to visit my sisters in NYC, but one of them moved out of Manhattan & bought a house and a car & the other is still in Brooklyn. The past several times I've gone up there, I just drive.

Also, I feel that I haven't been able to do FT a good service since I've been a bit of a slacker keeping this thread updated and I know there are some of you out there who post way more frequently in the AGR forum than I do who would probably do a better job of keeping this updated than I do. With my relatively recent addition of duties as the MR forum moderator & the WAS airports forum moderator, I don't feel that I'm paying enough attention the AGR forum & this thread. I've tried to keep it updated over the past 2 years that I've been managing it, but would not mind if someone else would be willing to take over.

If anyone at all is interested, please let me know. You don't have to be a long time member or anything like that - just an FT'er who travels on Amtrak & participates in AGR and who is willing to take the time to give back to the community and the AGR forum. If there are no volunteers for right now, I will continue to do it - but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!
