Personal Plat renewal coming up in a couple months--curious to see if I could be eligible for a retention offer after just 1yr.
These were not done all on the same day & not much spend:
BBP: $50
3 Biz Plat's: $695. For 2 of these first offer was $300. I declined & waited a few weeks. Tried again recently and got $695. For one Biz Plat that I got $300 retention last year, was offered $100 due to 13 month rule. Canceled that one. For the 2 Biz Plat's $695, AF is due in April & Aug this year.

My assumption would be that they did because they didn't state that they declined. But I very well may be wrong. Only the OP can confirm if they accepted or declined.

Offered 20,000 points after spending $2k. Accepted it.

Amex Platinum a few years old. Got a retention in 2020 then another one 2021 (13 month afterwards) and wouldn't been able to ask for another regular one as the AF would be due before another 13 month would be over.
Decided to ask 2 month before renewal for a retention offer. Result was $150 (to keep 12 month open) - I accepted as this leaves a bigger offer on the table for 2023 and I opened a lot of cards in 2021 and don't want to upset the algo.

Please expound. Are you implying that $60K annual spend level is too MUCH for a retention offer or too LITTLE for a retention offer? Could it be that spending at or above that level implies to the issuer that the cardholder likes the card and is unlikely to cancel and therefore does not warrant a retention offer? Could it be that spending at or below that level implies to the issuer that the cardholder account is not profitable and therefore not deserving of a retention offer? Thank you.
It might be either; $60K times roughly 3% amounts to $1800 for Amex. Is that enough to spend money to keep the customer? In general people assume the more they spend the higher the probability of a retention offer. I think that assumption is too simplistic. The question the algorithms are trying to answer is "How much will the customer spend in the future". As they say, past performance is no guarantee for future results, they look at all kinds of data and patterns, including your zip code.

And more importantly “how likely is the customer to cancel” and/or “use another of our products”

That's a really interesting and good one! Mind sharing any details on what your spend was like on that card the past year?

How often does a retention offer disappear? I wasn’t ready to make a decision two weeks ago. Now I am.

Update: offer was still there two weeks later. 40k MR or $400 for $3k spend. Took it. Seriously would’ve canceled otherwise. After 10 years. The $695 is absurd.

Recently accepted an offer for 7500 miles after $1000 on Delta Gold card. That comes pretty close to covering the $99 fee on a card I only use for the free checked bags when flying Delta.
