Membership Rewards (USA) points can be transferred to airline and hotel accounts in the name of the primary cardholder -or- the name of a supplementary cardholder on any card account linked to the same Membership Rewards account. You only need to request a supplementary card. It need not ever be given to the cardholder, nor used for any purchases. American Express will not issue cards for children under age 13.
Bear in mind that American Express (USA) generally limits customers to four credit cards, plus an unspecified number of charge cards. Most of the cards which can be used to add free supplementary cardholders are credit cards, choose one that you actually want to use,
These products allow you to add free Supplementary cardholders:
PERSONAL CARD ACCOUNTS
SMALL BUSINESS CARD ACCOUNTS

I just put in the ANA number (the one not in my name). I was surprised it linked. I thought that means I was good to go. But alas, it did not work on transfer.
Surprisingly, the account is still linked to my Amex.
Yea that's what the amex CSR suggested I do as well. But the fees kind of kill the deal. Thanks for all your help mia. :-:

Anyways, this change sucks big time. If I had more time I would devise some sort of plan to get the points out, but I need the points out right now so I can book my flight, but that ain't happening.

Solution: make the family member a Supplementary Cardholder (authorized user) on one of your card accounts. (It must be a card which earns Membership Rewards.) You will then be able to link their frequent flyer accounts to your Membership Rewards account. There is no requirement that the Supplementary card ever be used.

Short term solution: if you have a personal Platinum card you can order up to five GOLD supplementary cards for a flat $45 per year.
Long term solution: apply for an American Express Everyday card. No annual fee, participates in Membership Rewards. It should automatically link to your existing rewards account. Use it to order supplementary cards.

Confirmed today on the phone with an Amex rep that even family members at the same address (my son in this case) could not have points transferred to them. HAS to be an authorized card member.

I have created a Wikipost outlining the card types which can be used to add free supplementary cards for spouses, children over 15, parents, other relatives, friends or associates.

Only one Emirates Skywards membership account number can be assigned for the transfer of Membership Rewards® points. Any subsequent change to the nominated Emirates Skywards membership account number is not allowed.

I know I am chiming in rather late in the game but figured I would mention this in case it helps anyone. I have a Platinum card and I was able to order multiple GREEN cards free of charge over the phone for additional users. So this would be another fee free way for people to add AUs to Platinum cards and be able to transfer to those people's frequent flyer accounts.
I have my plat MR linked to my Skywards.
Could I get a supp Amex under my dad's Plat and link my new MR as well to my Skywards? So I would have two personal MR's linked to a single Skywards. Also, my dad has never linked his MR to skywards, so I would transfer his points via my sup account MR. Is that feasible?
Apologies in advance if I'm missing something obvious

Alas, Emirates is different. They will only permit transfers from one credit card account to each frequent flyer account. I will search for the relevant thread, and post a link later.
See post 197 in this thread:

This thread is a bit confusing at the outset, but the outcome is the same:
