Reminder: you must enroll and select Southwest as your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase.
Some have suggested the need to wait several hours or even a day before making the purchase, but there are also several DPs that worked without waiting that long.

(BTW, you will often hear people refer to Southwest as WN. WN is the IATA code for Southwest Airlines. SW is the IATA code for Air Namibia.)

Caution: As of late July 2019, reports are that direct gift card purchases are no longer being reimbursed.
To purchase click here: https://www.southwest.com/gift-card/create-card.html Caution: Do NOT login to your Southwest Rapid Rewards account when making the purchase.

What does appear to work is buying flight tickets less than $100, OR using gift cards to get the charged amount down to less than $100.

Always read the last few pages to get up-to-date DPs.

these are all very nice solid DPs. very consistent when the final charge amount is close to $100. but has anyone seen super low amounts get credit? something closer to $50 and under? curious whats the lowest we have seen.

Hi everyone -- longtime lurker, second post to the forum. Hopefully this DP helps some folks out there:

AmEx Gold

Selected Southwest as my airline when I signed up for AmEx Gold over the summer (new to AmEx).

10/07 - Purchased round-trip flight for $97.96.
10/08 - Charge goes from pending to posted. Flight information is attached to the posted charge (i.e., destination, SW reference number, SW ticket number, etc.).
10/09 - The airline fee credit "meter" (on the Benefits page) moves for the first time, showing I have $2.04 left.
10/10 - Credit of $97.96 posts to my account.

Cheers!

thank you for the DP. but im pretty sure those are legitimate incidental fees so those should be reimbursed for any amount. otherwise, you can call.

Everything on this front is moving and changing rapidly. I'd be very careful assuming that one data point makes a trend.

Plenty of DPs in this thread...cutoff seems to be somewhere around ~$105. Though, we don't know what is exactly. To be safe most are keeping it well below that amount..

Yep. I've seen as high as 105 on this thread, so I felt pretty safe going with 104.

Maybe a dumb question, but if I book a cheap flight to trigger the credit, can I cancel the flight within 24 hours to get a refund and still get the credit - to essentially cash it out?

I believe previous posts indicate that you won’t get reimbursement.

Charge has to post to Amex first. Cancel the ticket within 24 and it will never post to Amex. Once posted you could cancel the WN ticket and get WN credit. You can't cancel and get cash back either way if thats what you're after.
