AA's system will not sell gift cards to anyone with New Jersey info in their AMEX profile (and possibly AA profile). Your purchase will usually appear to go through, but when you try to activate the card a few days later it will be invalid.
You need to either choose another airline for this reimbursement, or cleanse your AMEX profile of NJ addresses and phone numbers, and possibly your AA profile as well.

Bought 1 x $100 eGC posted on 12/26, still no reimbursement. I'm starting to worry. I am an additional Personal Platinum card holder, not the primary card holder. But the primary card holder selected AA as his airline. Charge shows as "AA MISC SALE/ TAX/ FEE/EX BAG 4510742 - DALLAS, TX"

think i messed up - purchased 2x100 gift cards from AA, but put them both on same order. Showing up as pending $200 purchase on amex - should i just assume thats not going to be reimbursed and purchase 2 more separately?

I think you do have a problem. This might work out for you -- after all, there is no iron-clad law that $100 or under is okay, but $200 is not (technically, they are both "not okay"! -- but if it doesn't, you have kicked away $200. In your situation, I would just move the "lost" $200 from one pocket to the other (after all, you will use those two gift cards eventually) and buy two more, one after the other, ... now.

My guess would be the "gain" is expected to arise from selling something that someone else paid for.

Perhaps. I see quite a few posts from people who claim to "never" pay for airline tickets, but award seats are capacity controlled. It is sometimes more sensible to pay for a ticket than to redeem ~double miles for a "standard" award which suggests that giftcards could be useful. I am much more interested in understanding the decision making process than the resulting choice.

Yea, i can sell the $200 in gift cards for 160. Since I'm not paying for the gift cards ( or rather already paid for them via the fee) that's a 160 gain compared to if i didnt redeem them at all

Airline Fee $100 reimbursement
I read this post on December 29th and immediately purchased 2 $50 AAdvantage e-gift cards. The next day December 30th there were 2 $50 credits posted on my AMEX account. Thank you very much for the suggestion.
