Thinking about switching from the AeroplanPlus Platinum to the regular Platinum Card in Canada, mainly for the FHR program (and because I now have status on AC). The Canadian platinum card website lists only about 50-60 properties worldwide as participating in the FHR program if you're a Canadian cardholder (vastly different from the US program - for example, no properties in Tokyo, no Wynn in LV, etc). I spoke with someone at the Canadian FHR line who confirmed the same - different hotels for US vs Canadian cardholders.

Can any Canadian plat card holder confirm this? I just find it hard to believe, given how limited the FHR program would be for Canadian card holders.

thanks!

What website are you referring to? This is simply not true.

The FHR includes these hotels in Tokyo:
FS Chinzanso
FS Marunouchi
GH Tokyo
Hotel Seiyo Ginza
MO Tokyo
PH Tokyo
Pen Tokyo
Ritz Carlton Tokyo

Wynn Vegas is also on the list.

thanks for the reply jarusoba - here is the link to the FHR Canada page, which is accessed through the amex canada platinum card site:

https://www.iplatinum.americanexpres...s&hotelType=10

when i first came across this page, i assumed that it was likely just a sampling of the properties accessible through the canadian FHR program - but after contacting the amex travel services line for canada, i was led to believe this was the complete list (actually by 2 different representatives)

You may be able to get both CDN AX platinums for one fee. Ask people have done so in the past including myself.

I think they have terminated this program, unless you are a high spend member.

I did not even ask to keep the second, called to cancel it and they offered to provide it no fee indefinitely as long as I keep the Aeroplanplus platinum.

i just called amex and they confirmed that they will issue a second platinum card product for no additional charge (you pay whatever annual fee is the highest of the two), which applies indefinitely. i had actually tried to do this a number of months ago as i had read about it on FT in the past, but was denied (this was shortly after i had received my AP plat). the representative today said the offer stands for any cardholder whose account is flagged "high-value". she did not know what constitutes high value, as it is calculated automatically (and the account flagged) by the system. thanks for reminding me about this 300rwhp - obviously, adding the regular platinum is a no-brainer now.

So Amex has reinstated this benefit now. They said they have stopped it a while ago because a friend of mine could get it even after fighting with them. I can tell him to try again now.

To get back to the OP's question, I had the Platinum Card a few years ago and one of the reasons I canceled was it didn't offer the same FHR benefits as the U.S. card. The basic benefits were there but there would be special hotel offers on the U.S. FHR site that were not available through to Canadian cardholders.

I also found that all of the benefits of the FHR program were duplicated, without charge, by using a Virtuoso travel agent.
