i just called amex and they confirmed that they will issue a second platinum card product for no additional charge (you pay whatever annual fee is the highest of the two), which applies indefinitely. i had actually tried to do this a number of months ago as i had read about it on FT in the past, but was denied (this was shortly after i had received my AP plat). the representative today said the offer stands for any cardholder whose account is flagged "high-value". she did not know what constitutes high value, as it is calculated automatically (and the account flagged) by the system. thanks for reminding me about this 300rwhp - obviously, adding the regular platinum is a no-brainer now.
