To get back to the OP's question, I had the Platinum Card a few years ago and one of the reasons I canceled was it didn't offer the same FHR benefits as the U.S. card. The basic benefits were there but there would be special hotel offers on the U.S. FHR site that were not available through to Canadian cardholders.

I also found that all of the benefits of the FHR program were duplicated, without charge, by using a Virtuoso travel agent.
