In my experience the transfer is instantaneous if done online. Of course there is no guarantee that Amex or VS will not experience a system problem on the day you try it.

The transfer was instantaneous for me once the link between American Express and Virgin was up.

The link was down when I first tried, so my first transfer attempts failed with an error both online and by phone with a CSR. But once the link was up, the transfer was instantaneous.

Ditto - I transferred the miles and was told by Amex that it could take 24hrs - I checked my Virgin account an hour later and they were all there and I called into Virgin and used the miles right away.

I seem to recall reading that Virgin UC flights booked with miles were not eligible for UC lounge access. Is this correct?

Not so - you only get the limo transfers on paid J/D class tickets but you get all the other perks with redemptions.

I was told the same -- lounge yes, limo no.

MR to Virgin transfer time

How long does it take for the transferred MR points to show up in my Virgin Atlantic account?

I am trying to grab an upper class award in 15 days and they are few and far between.

If you perform the transfer online at http://membershiprewards.com it should occur instantly.

If you have made a transfer between Amex and Virgin before, Virgin will hold the points flight you want until the transfer shows up. If this is the first time you have made a transfer it seems to take up to 7 days and Virgin will not hold the flight.

(That certainly applies here in the UK anyway)

In the US, as mia pointed out above it is instantly. I have transferred to VS, DL, CO, HA in the past 6-9 months with the same result. The VS transfer was was mid-april.

I have done it in minutes also - VS agent they let me stay on the line booking an MFU while I did the xfer on line, and confirmed the UG when the miles appeared on her screen.
