Quick question, if there is space and you aren't wait listed and get the ticket, does that mean you're guaranteed a business seat (unless there's an aircraft change or what not) or are you still at the whim of those with higher status?

Also do you get lounge benefits if you get said ticket?

According to what I read (I asked the same thing maybe last week?), if you're *not* waitlisted, yes, you'll have the seat. (as "guaranteed" as AA does things--LOL). Yes, barring equipment changes, getting FAM'd, etc.

Hmmm, I'm not sure about lounge. I would think you'd have lounge access as any regular domestic which I don't think is free/included (I think free lounge access is only on certain international flights?) but last time I used a lounge it was on a DL ticket flying international.

Yeah I have no idea, I'm just browsing AA's website:

https://www.aa.com/i18n/travel-info/...ontinental.jsp

and they said its included, but I somehow doubt its included if I'm an upgrade. Oh well, gotta figure out my plans by tonight then see if said seat is available. Don't need to count the chickens before they hatch...

Whether paid for with cash/miles/BE cert, or even if upgraded using SWU/miles+cash/BE cert, a business class ticket is a business class ticket. It comes with all the perks & privileges that any other business class ticket would get (outside of earnings).

Oh nice! I presume in the future just show the boarding pass at the lounge.

In any case, I want to give a shout out to DMPHL and luv2vacay for helping me figure out some other aspects of this. Got a one way upgrade on my way back and I'm fairly excited to see how J class is like on American :)

I'm just looking at seatguru, any recs on particular seat?

If available, I'd go with Row 6...wider footwells at the bulkhead.

And yes, you will have Flagship Lounge access departing JFK, and AC access arriving SFO (no FL) if you need it for any reason.

Always happy to help, and have fun!!

It looks like the BX1B award was devalued for those who want to fly between BOS and LAX. The description "excludes nonstop transcontinental flights between Boston (BOS) and Los Angeles (LAX)." Sure, for a few months AA was flying a three-class aircraft between BOS and LAX. But that was only once a day out of about 4-5 daily non-stop flights. And it's completely gone now. But the restriction on the Business Extra certificate is still there and I can no longer use it for flying in a completely standard domestic "First" class on this route.

Waitlisting BXP1 via business.aa.com website

IMO, you can waitlist a BXP1 for only a single flight at a time (the authorization number goes into a temporary status and gets returned if your waitlist does not clear).

That said, had an interesting data point today. About two weeks ago, I waitlisted a BXP1 using business.aa.com and received a confirmation email that it was successfully waitlisted. Today I thought I would check the status again using the website. Both the "Business Extra upgrade" and "View Itinerary" buttons show my flight segment as "First" (with no mention of a waitlist). Thinking it might be "stuck" trying to clear, I called Meeting Services to verify. The agent had to check with their help desk to be sure.. they concluded that the online waitlist request didn't actually apply and we had to redo it over the phone. A frustrating result given how convenient the new website is, but a good cautionary tale for anyone else thinking about waitlisting online vs. calling.

Sanity check please:

is it correct that I can use a BXP1 certificate (650 points) for an upgrade from (paid) business class to first class on JFK-LAX, and that "A" class is required for the upgrade?

thanks.

Yeah that works but I cannot use that to find or book flights using my business extra certs like the business.aa.com portal. So was trying to figure out how to actually get the business login.

You have to sign up for business.aa.com
Go to the "Get Started" tab near the top of the web page at business.aa.com

I just applied a BXP1 online for the first time. Did not actually have to sign up for business.aa.com.. there was an option on the landing page below the search fields that said "Business Extra upgrade" which led me to a page where I entered my name and PNR and successfully applied upgrade. No new login needed.
