I've read here about redpositing a BXP1 for a fee and they reinstate the points. I claimed just before 600 pts were to expire hoping to use it for a transcon but it didn't clear. I'd rather save it for a future transcon that will be after the BXP1 expires...Will they look back and say you can't redeposit because they were old about-to-expire points? I've read the wiki that says you can't redposit to extend the life of points, but just curious here.
If i can't do it, i'm not that bummed, as I got a 600 point promo bonus to my account I wasn't actually qualified for, but they gave it to me anyway. |
Can someone advise if BXP1 can be used on 125-stock ticket, please? All AA prime numbers, just ticketed on BA. I know SWUs work on 125-stock tickets, but has anybody had experience with BXP1 certs?

Can you substantiate this claim? I've understood for years that SWUs are valid only on AA metal, and only on AA-marketed flights. Or have I been wrong all these years?

Apparently to redeposit BXP1 certificates, the charge is $150 for the first one and $25 each for any additional. Under certain circumstances, the fee can be waived.
Once redeposited, the points are good for 2 years. |
A bit new to this program, so forgive me if the answer is well known. I logged into my wife's BE account to see if June flights have posted. A statement is available, but no activity is listed. She and several others on her BE account had AA flights in June, yet nothing posted?! Is there a lag between them adding the June statement to the drop-down menu and actually posting the flight activity?

Our June flights are listed on BE's website but all show "0" points earned. I'm assuming there is a glitch/lag that will hopefully be corrected in a few days.

Is it possible to sign up for a Business Extraa account with just a small, sole proprietorship, with two traveling employees? Or is this targeted towards larger operations? Don't want to sign up and risk something happening to my personal AAdvantage account.
|
Yes, I have been using Business ExtrAA with just myself and another employee. AA hasn't said a thing, but then again we are a bonafide small business with a payroll/EIN/etc if they decide to dig deeper.

I've been doing just this, doesn't seem to matter -- from what I hear it's only really Delta's version (SkyBonus) that cares about who the companies are.

Thanks guys. The sign up page lists a couple choices for "Annual Travel Spend," with the lowest option being $25k. We don't spend that amount, more like $15k. Probably won't earn any decent rewards for a few years but whatever we can get helps. Any harm in joining if we're below that threshold?

Thanks to ExpertFlyer's alerts, I was able to call and burn two BXP1s to Hawaii. I'm pretty thrilled at the moment.

Apologies as I haven't read through this whole thread but I'm thinking about redeeming for a BXP2 certificate for a relative flying from US to Europe. The outbound leg was booked in Y, so it should be eligible, but I called the Business Extra customer service number and they told me there was no availability and they could put her on wait list.
The flight departs in 16 days, so I'm trying to decide a few things if I should redeem for the certificate: How soon will it physically get to me? When will I know if cleared for upgrade to Business? Can I return the certificate and have points redeposited into my account if it doesn't get used? |

Can I return the certificate and have points redeposited into my account if it doesn't get used? 1) Certs ship twice a week and you should get it in the regular mail within two weeks (last record I have was a redemption on 4/13/16 and receipt on 4/22/16). You can pay for FedEx to be sure you receive it in time, but will probably be ok if you redeem today. You do not need to have the cert in hand in order to request the upgrade, but do obviously need it in hand to check in. 2) I would check J cabin availability (and fare buckets if you have ExpertFlyer) to guess at the odds of the upgrade clearing. You may clear a day or two before, or at the gate, or not at all. 3) Yes, you can return the cert for a $150 fee. This will NOT extend the expiration date of the points. https://www.businessextra.com/faq.htm |
Apologies if this was posted and answered already but didn't see it and wasn't able to find it in searching.
Can an I get credit for past flights flown prior to opening up the account. Say I opened the account today but flew 50 times this year on AA prior to today. Can I request credit for these flights? Thanks |

I need more clarification on this. I redeemed 3000 points at the end of the year. Some 2000+ were set to expire at the end of 2016. If I needed to return the award, and I pay the $150,- fee. Does this mean that I will only get the net back? Or is there a way of changing the award, paying the fee, and not forfeit anything?
The reps are very helpful, and there's not much of a wait to speak with someone. |

Thanks Unfortunately, you would not be able to. Which is a little bit of a bummer, but that's just how it is. It is quite easy to earn and rack up points though! |

There's no minimum spend or anything like that. If you have a business it would be silly not to sign up, even if you don't spend anywhere near $25k annually. Your BE account is totally separate from your personal AAdvantage account. Yea, the earning can be slow if you don't spend much, but it still adds up.
No harm at all! You actually accumulate more points than you would think. I am an AA Platinum member, so generally I go for the BXP certificates for upgrades instead of using my upgrades, when I don't buy a first-class ticket. I have been given the upgrades as far out as 4-5 days, and sometimes when I am about to board. For 650 points, they are a bargain. If you do $15K in annual spend you could get around 3000 points per year. That's enough for a club membership, many upgrades, and a one-way free flight. So hopefully you sign up and start getting some awards. They also do promotions throughout the year which also helps get tons of miles! |

I think it was discussed earlier but when you return an award it resets the clock on the expiration date so should be ok.
It's clear that refunding an award doesn't extend the validity of points that otherwise would have expired; the question, then, was whether one could still use of the value of already expired/redeemed points, by changing the award (either for a different zone at identical cost, or a more expensive one, topping up with additional points). In my case, for example: in December 2016, I had a bunch of points that were set to expire, but was just short of an international award I wanted. So, to not lose the points, I cashed in my expiring balance for a domestic business class award, which I'm not even when I will use. So: If it turns out one can change the award certificate (even exchange, or a higher award) without forfeiting points from the original issue that otherwise would have expired, that would be fantastic, and well worth the $150 fee. Just not sure if it's possible... UXB - apologies if I misunderstood your question. |

Returning Unused Awards - Electronic Flight Awards may be returned free of charge within 5 calendar days of redemption. All other unused awards may be returned for a $150 fee (waived for AAdvantage Executive Platinum members) and points will be reinstated with the original expiration dates. Thus, this method cannot be used to extend the life of expiring points. |

I'd love for you to be right here- but Wiki post at the start of this thread gives exactly the opposite advice:
Is the Wiki wrong? Presuming it's correct - only possible workaround I could think of was exchanging the award for another type. Will try to call about this next week and see what's possible. |

I dont know if the Wiki is wrong, just telling folks how it worked for me. Maybe I got lucky. I find it hard to believe that the system is smart enough to figure out the original points expiration and work any other way than what I have personally experienced. See post 682.

This month's postings might have been the biggest cluster f**k since joining the program. The first leg of every round trip ticket is missing. Should be fun explaining this one.

Secure BXP1 upgrade before enough points post?
The points for the missing initial segments of my 2 segment flights last month posted...sort of. The "my account" point total seems to reflect the missing segments, but the flight list itself does not include them. The BE database must be running on a Commodore 64 :p
So I almost have a enough points for 2 BXP1 awards. After some early Aug flights post next month I will have enough. The flight I'm targeting currently has C4 availability. Is it possible to secure the upgrade even though I won't redeem points for the certs until next month? The flight is several months out so plenty of time for points to post and get the certs prior. I just want to grab the C availability before it's gone. It seems if the BE rep doesn't ask for serial numbers this could be possible, no? |

Anyone received their bonus points for the AJB2Q17 Transatlantic promotion?
I emailed Business Extra customer support and they said the promotion ended July 31, so I should keep waiting. However, the Business Extra website clearly says it ended June 30. I suppose even by that date, we still haven't quite hit 8 weeks from the end, so I'll check back at the end of the month. Just curious if it's gone through for anyone. |
