I got two freebies when the GA either didn't know what to do with my BXP1 or didn't want to deal with it (I presented it, GA looked at it, handed it back as though it was a drugstore receipt for chewing gum). Wasn't EXP at the time so thankfully didn't lose eVIPs. Recently, I haven't had the same glitch where I was formerly able to check in via the app without tendering the cert at check-in. I've been getting the "see an agent" message, and the agent has taken the cert.

I just called to upgrade JFK-SFO-JFK from I to A, and I was asked for the serial numbers. Definitely a deterrent to anyone who would willfully fail to tender the certificates along the way.

I guess I'll be a guinea pig on this later in the year. I'll first try to re-use the same serial number and see what they say. I have 3 or 4 more that are unused but figure it's worth seeing what happens.

I saw this in my newsletter yesterday. One of their better promos. Thanks AA!

My question is: Does this "bonus" 650 miles/points have to be redeemed for the upgrade award? It reads as if our accounts will be credited with this bonus, but there are other awards that could be redeemed if this tops up a company's account. I've just flown a qualifying flight and will have three more over the next couple of days, but not sure I'd want to redeem for an upgrade voucher.

I highly doubt a program that still uses paper certificates has the technology in place to "earmark" the 650 for a BXP1. If they wanted to do that, they would just send you a BXP1 and not bother with crediting the points.

sometimes things just slip through the cracks. Do I feel guilty double dipping, not one bit. AA has done nothing but bring on one negative change after another in the last year. I'll take whatever I can get. If that means double dipping on these, I'll gladly do it.

The promo said they're giving you 650 points; "enough for a free upgrade," but you don't have to use it for such. In the past, they've given 300 points (enough for an AC day pass), but again, you could bank it.

I'm not saying you should feel guilty, but I don't want to hearing hemming and hawing from you if they eventually catch up to you. :D

Just joined. Can anyone us my number to give me points? Familty? Colleagues?

For existing reservations is it enough to have my family members add my BE number to their profiles or do I need to have the number manually added by having them call in?

I usually email reservation references to BusinessExtra and they can add your number. You need to do this if there are schedule changes and your ticket is re-issued.

That's was my assumption.

My wife has a business extra account. I assume that my flights that are booked by my companies corporate travel agent aren't eligible as they probably have their own business extra number, but I thought I'd double check.

Also wondering if anyone is successful in applying a business extra number to a ticket booked by a corporate agent but upgraded personally to first class.

If no business extra number is in there already, I don't think there's ever a problem adding yours -- just from my experience.

Ok, for those of you who are also the travel mgrs. for your company w/the BusinessExtra program, where did the list of all enrolled travelers, including their AA#'s, go on the website?

Am pulling my hair out trying to find where the list of all my travelers went

I think it's gone. It used to be at the same level in the menu as "Travel Managers" is now. With only a few colleagues traveling on my account, that page never added any value for me, but I do remember it and can't find it now.

Are there any issues crediting EQM to a different program (e.g. Alaska) while credit to business extra? Or are we only allowed to credit to AA?

You can do that, on a flight I credited to BA and AABE.

Can business extra one segment upgrade certificates be redeemed on economy anytime awards? The economy awards that use more miles.
Booking code is Y which doesn't seem to be an excluded fare class? Any ideas if thats possible to upgrade using the certificate?

As it sits now, you can't use any type of upgrade instrument (Business Extra, SWU, miles, etc.) to upgrade an award ticket.

AAnytime awards pull from the full-fare buckets (F,J,Y) but are still coded as award tickets.

Does the flight have to be paid, or can it be an award flight?

I believe it has to be a paid flight (at least mine was) to trigger activity.

txpenny Mar 24, 2017 10:11 am

Huh, nice bonus for basically doing nothing. Posted on 3.22.17.

236Dakota Mar 24, 2017 1:06 pm

Mine posted on the 22nd as well:)

chrisremo Mar 24, 2017 3:58 pm

Still haven't gotten mine, and I flew a month ago.

ralphs Mar 24, 2017 4:03 pm

Hmm, I didn't get the credit either. Maybe it's because I flew on an AA-marketed BA-operated flight?

Mine was AA marketed and operated. I registered only a day before the flight, hopefully that wasn't somehow cutting too close.

I registered about an hour before my flight and received the credit. It was the only flight I've had since registering.

I have a question about seat selection. . . The FAQ says:

Q: Can I purchase Preferred Seats when traveling on a Business Extra flight award?
A: Preferred Seats are not available for purchase to passengers traveling on Business Extra PlanAhead tickets.

So, not even EXP or CK members can select a preferred (or MCE) seat on a PlanAhead award?

Seems hard to believe - and I didn't find any reference to "preferred seats" in this thread, so perhaps I'm just reading it incorrectly.

You're reading it incorrectly. :)

CK/EXP/PLT can of course select preferred or MCE seats on a Business Extra award just like any other ticket. These seats are offered complimentary, they don't have to "purchase" them.

But for any no-status passenger that has to pay for preferred seats, the option to do so is not available on Business Extra awards, just like it is not available on normal AAdvantage awards.

I signed up as a new member and waited until 3/15 to request credits for flights for end of Feb. Received credits for those flights on 3/18. Received the bonus on 3/22.

I guess the only difference in mine was I had to add my new BE number via phone agent since the flight was already booked. Still nada..
