I should therefore assume that in this case it's the same as C = 0 on any other flight. I see some other options out there where I can get FC reasonably so I'll just do that and lose the vouchers...

you can do a refund on the vouchers and get your points back. Just visit the business extra site it’s clear on there how to return them

I have 3 BXP1's expiring around Thanksgiving, as well as two lounge passes. I am sure I can use one or two of them, but not 3. I looked in the Wiki but I am missing something or stupid today, can anyone remind me if I can transfer either of these passes (lounge or upgrade) to a coworker or friend/family? I am indeed the business manager for the company for the travel account, but some of these passes were redeemed using the promotion last year where they cost less points than usual.

Have you tried to redeopist

just redeposit and good for a year. Not sure about lounge passes. I’m wondering with the changes next year what it will mean for doing this.

Does that essentially put them back, give the points back, and then I can make new ones, at the higher price than last year's Thanksgiving discount deal? That seems ideal versus them expiring. But I am still wondering if I can issue one to someone else, a friend or family.

You can definitely use a BE award for anyone, they are not tied to you.

Jonesdds Sep 24, 2022 8:13 pm

BXP1s will be 650 each, not that deal

youll have to call as I understand it to use for someone else, but I could be wrong as the last time I did I had to call for even myself

Does anyone know where the terms and conditions are really spelled out for 2023? I find nothing that’s detailed enough to be meaningful. Talking to agents means a bunch of conflicting info. Here’s what I understand so far that may be wrong:

On 1/1/23 will have three traveling employees incl me, but have that now. Was told I will not be able to redeem until spend $5000 in 2023 and would need all three of us to have traveled. But, was also told that flights taken in 2022 don’t count towards the $5000 or all 3 employees taking a qualifying flight in 2022. That makes no sense given the rolling 12 months. Probably a mistake by them but when I questioned it they were emphatic.

-fare code for bookings cannot be B,N, O, Q or S or basic economy, meaning the $5000 spend and qualifying flights have to be outside of these fare classes.. is this correct? I’d thought for upgrades they have to not be these codes.

one thing I didn’t ask is what redemption would mean if not able to qualify. If I were to redeem all points into BXP1 certs before the Jan1 date to qualify I’d be able to use them because ive “redeemed” before the changes before existing members?

1) It's a rolling 12 months, so once the new requirements kick in then any activity in 2022 should count. The $$ and traveler counter is now live.

2) The B/N/O/Q/S fare restrictions are only for BE upgrade awards, this has nothing to do with what fares you will or will not earn BE points on. You will earn BE points on those fares but you cannot apply a BXP1 or BXP3 upgrade.

3) Any awards claimed before 1/1/23 can be used like normal with no regards to how much you've spent in 2023 or how many travelers.

Thought I'd hit the $5k before the end of the year but now looking like I'll be about $400 short (just enough money to not want to do a "BE point run"). Some questions for redeeming:
  1. It looks like I'd have 12 months from when I redeem a BXP1 upgrade to use it, is that correct?
  2. Do Admirals Club One Day Passes have the same 12 month expiration or does it differ?
  3. Based on what I'm seeing, both the upgrades and the day passes are fully transferable?

Yes to your first two questions but on the day pass, you nominate the recipient when you redeem points for it. I’m not aware of a way to transfer it short of redepositing.

Has anyone run into difficulties using the business.aa website to process a BXP1 for a flight booked using a mix of cash and flight credit? I made such a booking, fare code is G, confirmed space on expert flyer, but I cannot get the business.aa website to pull up the reservation so I can process the upgrade online. I get the message: "No records found. Please ensure you are using the American Airlines record locator." The only ever time I've seen this message is when I had 2 pax on the same record, and it turned out that was the issue so I had to call to have it split. Is the website just down, or can it not process upgrades for flights booked using these annoying credits?

Hello I flew an AA coded (AA flight XXXX) QR flight. Ticket was issued by AA (001).
Will I get BusinessExtra credit for this flight?

No, has to be operated by AA, BA, IB, JAL.

Am I missing something about how to apply a BXP1 upgrade? I upfared the ticket. I know it's an eligible fare class. I checked EF for space. It's available. I went to this page:

https://business.aa.com/Home/Index

I clicked on the button that says Business Extra upgrade. I entered the first and last name on the ticket along with the record locater and it returns an error saying that record locater cannot be found. Is this because I just purchased the ticket? I'm sorry if this seems stupid. I feel dumb because I cannot figure this out.

Andrea Waters Oct 4, 2022 12:54 pm

I had this exact same problem with a G class fare. I'm glad it's not just me.

In my experience, it takes a few days before the business.aa.com website will load the record locator. I've also had it stop working for awhile (day, weeks), always with the same generic error message. If you know upgrade space is available, I would call meeting services and have the BXP1 manually applied (before it goes away -- don't wait for their flakey website to start working).

Redemption strategy

I have some points expiring this year which sounds like can still do the return trick to extend for another year. But considering the new redemption rule ($5000 + 3 employees) kicking in next year, would it to be the best try to redeem all the points? Converting to AA miles seems to be the most easiest way without needing to have a trip planned. Anything I miss here?

1 Day Admirals Club Pass

Thanks to the new electronic delivery of 1-day passes into specific AA account wallets, I have 2 electronic wallet passes that will expire before the end of the year that I will not be using. I wanted to give them to a family member but when I contacted BusinessExtraa, I was told that once they are in your wallet, you cannot give them to anyone else to use.

Is there any method to extend the expiration date or assign them to someone else?

can you still return the award for BE credit, then redeem it again for the passenger you want to have it?

I suggest you try online first. I've returned various business extra awards and they've credited my account instantly without any human interaction

No luck, there is no place to return a one-day pass award online and I did contact customer service who validated that the one-day pass cannot be refunded unless within 24 hours of redemption. At least they were discounted and I will only lose 400 points instead of 600.

The new system with having to assign awards to an account is really a disadvantge.

Back in the day I used to be a UA fanboy but I'm now AA due a move a few years back. I hit EP this year and have 550k miles and started looking to book some flights for the fam for next year. Stupid question, where are all the normal priced business/first class flights? There seems to be nothing in terms of availability. When there is availability US to EU or US to Africa & Middle east is starting at 360k points per ticket! Am I missing something here?

Welcome to the new world of debauched/debased FF currencies. AA and UA have followed Delta into the toilet. pAAesos and ZimMileagePlus are indistinguishable from Skypesos.

davidsc111 Oct 11, 2022 9:41 am

There are opportunities but they are few and far between. Example, I booked 2 one way Biz MLE to PHX (via SFO) on QR & AA all biz at 70k miles per ticket for next may. Finding 3 consecutive flights at saaver levels is rare though. Without BA's search engine and expert flyer it would be like finding a needle in a haystack.

I mean, I think that's a bit unfair. I can still find good business class awards on AA and UA. Whereas Delta has essentially decided to not offer business class awards at all by making them so absurdly priced.

I just called Meeting Services and asked to change BX2A award tickets I booked in June.
I thought I had to pay change fee, but the agent didn't charge the fee.
Is that a new rule?

Jan 1 changes question

The only thing I forgot to ask them on a recent call if regarding the 3 unique traveling employees. I see online I show two including myself and met the spend of $5k over last twelve months. My third one has a flight late Dec and early Jan. The other employee that’s just flown doesn’t have anything booked in 2023 so after Jan 3 I’ll have 2 employees that have flown. Does this mean I will be ineligible to redeem in 2023 until my third employee flies? Due to changes kicking in for me Jan 1 I’m thinking yes but keep getting different answers from Biz xtra.

also, does anyone know if it’s the purchase date or day of flying of the employees that determines eligibility?

Purchase date has never mattered for anything, it's the date of the flight that counts.

Date of flying.

I'm way over the $5K, as two of us fly frequently. All I have to keep track of is the latest day of flying of one of the two infrequent flyers. I can redeem as long as one of them has flown within the last 12 months.

alphaeagle Oct 23, 2022 3:47 pm

I'm likely going to be short for the $5K spending on January 1st. I've seen talk of a counter that lists the unique travelers and amount spent, where exactly is that? I think I've looked at every bit of the website and I'm not seeing it listed at all.

Seeing that should also answer my question regarding if spending in January 2022 will count when looking at redeeming in 2023.

Thats interesting because their agent told me the rolling 12 mo spend total is when purchased, not flown. I even confirmed with him again because I didn’t believe it.

After logging in click Redeem(upper right area) then Redeem Points and you’ll see this:

anyone yet had AA explain how long that speedometer on spending will last if we're currently over $5k? like how can we see what the 12 month running total will be for january before dec 31?
Id hate to wait till jan 15 and suddenly dip under the 5k and cant redeem for awhile,

That's nonsense and just an agent getting words mixed up or having no idea what they're talking about.

Other than for ticket validity purposes, the date of purchase has no bearing on anything, be it with Business Extra or AAdvantage. Business Extra doesn't know that you've spent $X until you take the flight and the flight credits to your account. The date you buy the ticket is irrelevant.

Otherwise anyone could buy a ticket today for some date in the future, get credit for it, then cancel it.
