Isn't this the case with all AA FC seats?

$68.00 is a very good deal and well worth it for a 2 hour flight. Enjoy your trip in First Class.

Domestic F is almost always full due to unlimited domestic upgrades for any elite. Especially on a hub to hub, there is a 0% chance the plane will take off with any empty seats in F.

But should I stay in 1F with the bulkhead or move to another seat in the back, like 4F?

Opinion on bulkhead seats is very divided. Some love them, others hate them. I am in the latter camp, so I would take 4F over 1F every time. In general, those who are tall and/or have big feet dislike the bulkhead because there is less foot room (but paradoxically more knee room).

I always go for the bulkhead when/if I get an upgrade. You have no one in front of you and leg room isn't that good in the other seats if someone reclines (FYI also I'm 6'1" so it may or may not be relevant to you). I also like the fact that I can be the first one off the plane. On some planes the bin directly over 1DF is used for equipment and will not take luggage. That being said always be ready to board first so you don't have to go too far back (1AC bin is usually smaller than the other F bins--just yesterday I used it dtw-clt and it fits two backpacks or one standard 22" rollerboard perfectly).

Enjoy the flight, have some cocktails, and oh they added Ruffles to the snack basket too :tu:

I like the bulkhead if I'm planning to work on my laptop. I'd also recommend the bulkhead if you get up often to use the restroom, as you will likely be able to get out without 1E needed to get up. Otherwise, I'd take 4F.

There's no need to be such a Debbie Downer.

If nothing else, the OP is going to get a chance to experience first class himself so he will be able to form his own opinion.

And, $68 seems like a reasonable price for that look see.

Just because you don't find value in first class doesn't mean nobody else does.

I would find tremendous value in the upgrade, even with no food, drinks, or attention from the FA's. As FT's resident fat guy, I value the space over anything. More for my fellow passengers than myself.

Personal choice. I hate bulkhead, my wife loves it.

$68 is a total no-brainier for me - DO IT! You'll be spending at least 2 hours on the plane from boarding to exit (perhaps even longer with summer thunderstorms/delays), so it's less then $34/hour for a bigger seat, more legroom, free drinks, and better snacks. Also, (assuming you have no status) you'll be moving from a high boarding group to group 1, so no worries at all about getting your carry-on into the overhead (you don't check a bag, right?).
I'm also an anti-bulkhead guy so I can put my backpack or laptop bag under the seat in front of me.
Flying into DCA, ALWAYS try to get an A seat on the left side of the plane (2A is ALWAYS my favorite). When landing to the south, you'll get an incredible view of the White House, Mall, Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, etc. Landing to the north, you'll get Old Town Alexandria.
Enjoy your first experience in First!!!

See my post above. Whether you stay in the bulkhead or move back, switch to the left (A) side. Much better views when arriving to DCA!

I am not checking a bag.

Indeed. It's like renting a new car for a week before buying it. Is the 5-hour version of this flight worth $150, $200, $250, or $300? OP will have a much better idea next time although the value of the experience is very crew dependent and you won't know until after you flown it and spent the money. Like a slot machine, the next identical flight might have the complete opposite experience too where you're watching the flight attendant play with her phone the whole time.

I completely forgot about this and you are spot on, get an "A" seat if you can, and hope they are landing from North to South.
