Not a fan of the Boxes... AA looks like junk and I just flew Qatar last week and they are not as easy to take with you... it takes a lot of room in the backpack to fit them in... Just another example of bad decisions to placate the squeaky wheel....

AA boxes look like junk compared to QRs kits? Or QRs kits are not easy to take with you?

Flew SQ last month and I think what they do is a pretty good compromise - everything is on request except toothbrushes/toothpaste and razor/shaving cream in the lavs. Most other items are standalone, but they also have an amenity kit on request with facial moisturizer, lip balm, face mist. Was a decent faux-leather bag, but when I asked the FA how many kits they give out, she said usually 5-10 per flight she works. I didn't ask which planes/routes she normally flew, but if that's the overall average, even assuming 10 per flight, that's about 20-25% of the seat count so quite a big reduction in waste.

Agreed- Like the hoarders of certain snacks out of the snack baskets, this would be a nightmare if they were put out on the honor system.

How much "room" does a toothbrush, a dollhouse size tube of toothpaste, a wet wipe, a mini pen, and some single use skincare product "take" from the backpack, 250 cc (~1% assuming a 25 liter bag)?

QR Box vs amenity kits (male and female)
QR Box vs amenity kits (male and female) - side view
Not to mention that it would go down exactly as well as the "invitation to engage with the FAs about the wine" has.

This new Amenity kit box is a test that runs from Jan 10th - Apr 30th for customers flying Business Class from LHR, CDG, and MAD to any U.S. airport. The amenity kit on U.S. OUTBOUND flights is not changing.
This is the first step to "test" customer willingness to keep something after the flight to reuse on their return flight (which the customer will provide insight for future amenity kit programs.)
imo:
(considering how many are left behind...and often unopened, I'm not surprised they're trying something to mitigate the left over waste)
so considering how many folks are up in arms about this TEST, I hope everyone fills out the end of flight surveys so we see a change in both the offerings of the kit as well as a kit everyone is happy with!

do you know what happens to the ones left behind? I'm guessing the unopened/sealed ones are reused. Are the other ones collected and donated or tossed?

After flying AA exclusively for a while, I was surprised other US airlines like AS and DL serve wine from a can. Given how focused AA is on cost-cutting, I wouldn't be shocked to have it come out of a box one day.

Out of curiosity, how large is the AA box? The photo at the top of the screen makes it look like the size of a shirt box, which seems rather awkward if true. By contrast the QR box in the photo several posts up seems like a more practical, compact size.

Assuming you remove items you want keep from the box, what difference does the size of the box make?
