BOS-ORD on 12/8, 6:45am departure, cleared at the 72-hour window. I actually booked it slightly within the 72-hour window, in coach, and the upgrade cleared within an hour of ticketing. Flight was J7 at the time of booking, and I briefly saw a $97 buy-up offer on AA.com. |

Yep that buy up offer in the app is available until the gate agent is closing the door. :D

AA will typically never clear all upgrades until right before the flight. So if there are only 2 seats left for sale in business, for example, those will not be given out to a Gold (or anyone) right at T-24. They will keep those seats available for sale for any last minute travelers, then if they're still available they will clear any upgrades at the gate right before the flight.
I'm almost always #1 or #2 on the list, don't know why. |
Flying PHL-LAS on Sunday December 11. A321 with 20F seats. Prior to T-100, flight was C7 with 11 F seats unoccupied. At T-99, was C4 with 4 F seats unoccupied. I was upgraded, EXP with 200K LP's and maybe a small number of EQM's in the 12-month rolling period.

3 cabin upgrade
I am booking in PE on a 777 to Hawaii and am only platinum. Where do I fall in line for upgrades compared to an EXP booked in Y? Does being in PE increase chances, there are 14 J seats available.

Here's an interesting data point: I applied an SWU for a no-status friend JFK-EZE, three days in advance of her flight. There was only one J seat available at the time, though there were a handful of Y seats. To my surprise, her upgrade cleared at roughly T-36 hours and, interestingly, there is now only 1 Y seat available (and AA is still selling 1 J seat). This sequence of events leaves me wondering if AA sometimes opens C space ahead of time if it helps them effectively roll the cabin and preserve last minute Y on routes where those purchases are more likely vs. last minute J. Just a theory.

ORD-MIA during Christmas week. Put in for a miles upgrade for me+1, I'm EXP around 250K. Hasn't cleared, which isn't surprising even though EF was showing a LOT of seats up front.
If I cancel the mileage upgrade request, how fast does it take before a pay-up might show? I'm just curious what experiences people have. For now, here's what EF shows which is ridiculous seating, to be honest. Lots of solo? https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...eaed8168f6.jpg I don't mind paying to be up front, either miles+copay or straight TODs if they offer it. Flight is in 2 weeks. |

ORD-BOS on 12/8, 9pm departure, cleared at the 72-hour window. Flight was J7 at the time of booking, which was just outside the 72-hour window. Flight actually left with 1 or 2 open F seats, but it could be because it got delayed by 2 hours and people bailed. |

J was going for $10k plus (I don’t know about Y or W) so that is plausible. |
Hello everyone
I am new to the board. After a lot of flying and cc spending I made it to EXP status. I fly from either FLL or PBI to PHL or back on the average of once every 2 weeks or so. In my short time as Pro I was 0 for 3 in the upgrade department never making it past 4th on the list.. On the average does anyone on the board know what my chances are of upgrades oner the next 15 months when I will have about 25 or so opportunities. I always try to book A321 aircraft to increase my chances. Thank you in advance |

12/10 LAX-PHX AA466 A320: Every F seat was gone 3 weeks before departure. I actually checked EF two weeks before the flight and literally every F seat on LAX-PHX that day was gone. 7/24 on the list, no one cleared. 12/10 PHX-MSY AA1492 A320: In-app upgrade was $146. A week before the flight, there were 4 F seats remaining per EF and since I was flying with my Gold girlfriend, we decided to pull the trigger so we could enjoy first together on the 2 and a half hour flight. Ended up being a big mistake as 5 people ended up either cancelling or misconnected, so 2 F seats were filled T-24 and 3/9 on the list cleared at the gate. Whatever. |

12/10: MCO - CLT A321 9:50am - myself and companion cleared T-47, in-app upgrade was as low as $49 few weeks out. 2/5 cleared at gate. 12/10: CLT - PIT A321 1pm - 14/32, no one cleared, in-app upgrade was as low as $76 few weeks out that I saw |
EXP, re-qualified with 248k LP
11/28 SFO to ORD (AA 1253) B737 (redeye). Purchased ticket with miles T-30, upgraded shortly thereafter. The flight went out full with 2/2 clearing the list the day of departure. 11/29 ORD to DFW (AA 2754) B737. (connection of previous flight). Upgraded at T-24 after I'd purchased at T-30. The flight left full with 2/19 getting the remaining 2 seats. 11/3 DFW-SAN (AA 1573) A321 . Purchased a week out, upgraded at T-24. The flight went out full, with 1/16 getting the last seat. Also, I was able to clear an SWU for DFW-SCL for Oct. 2023 at time of purchase along with an LAX-HND round trip for July 2023. |
how do upgrades work if it is me (gold) and two passengers? I was under the impression only one companion can get upgraded? The issue is we are traveling with our 3 year old- so obviously we cannot leave her by herself, and I am sure as not going to take a first class upgrade and leave my wife with a toddler as I value my marriage much more than a first class seat. Am I correct in thinking I could get an upgrade but not all three? (and thus, passing on it, or giving it to my wife and I stay with toddler- which I know she likely won't take it- but maybe we split the trip.
