It could have been TODs, far as I know they customize the quotes so someone could have had an offer for $100 for example.

DFW - HNL today, #6 on UG list w/235,000 LP. Picked this flight and day because it started out pretty wide open, but by T-24 hours all the J and PE seats were gone. No upgrades cleared into J or PE that I know of.

Looks like more people are buying first class to/from Mexico (this is anecdotal from my going up and asking the gate agent to check, I did not check Expert Flyer):

Sept 28, 2022 DFW to SJD - FC sold out, per gate agent - #1 and 2 on list - wife and I pulled up to first after we were seated and right before the door closed
Sept 30, 2022 SJD to DFW - FC sold out, per gate agent - #1 and 2 on list - wife and I pulled up to first after we were seated and right before the door closed
Nov 1, 2022 DFW to SJD - FC sold out, per gate agent - #1 and #2 on list - did not clear
Nov 4, 2022 SJD to DFW - FC sold out, per gate agent - #1 and #3 (which I still cannot explain) on list - did not clear

Oct 21, 2022 DFW to PVR - don't know if was sold out, but I assume so - wife (she's EXP but has less than 40,000 LPs) was #1 on list - did not clear

We were never presented with a buy-up offer on any of the flights. Most of these flights were a321s, if I recall correctly.

so first flight as a gold - BON to MIA to RDU - upgraded 24 hours out on MIA to RDU segment

Second trip
RDU to CLT to CUN - I was upgraded right before boarding on RDU to CLT segment - I gave it to my wife. CLT to CUN- we were seated then upgraded after all boarded - both of us.

flight home CUN to RDU - I cleared 24 hours out and was upgraded - wife for some reason got on a different confirmation number even thou on trip down were same - and were booked at same time.

She never got on the waitlist- I chatted through the app and they said they added her as a request - but she never showed up. At that time there was one open seat in first class and only two people on list. If I got updated and still one open seat, I would think she would have been right after me? I suspect she never made it to the list since her name never showed on the waitlist. I gave her my first class seat.

That being said, not a big deal as a gold I don't expect this- but can anyone explain why I did and she got separated from my conf number/upgrade option?

I am guessing future flights with her, me and my daughter, we won't get upgraded, but it was very nice and unexpected

This may be true to Mexican tourist destinations, but not to less touristy locales.

As a platinum and platinum Pro over the last 5 years, I am 100% on upgrades to and from MEX, GDL, OAX, MID, AGU, BJX, and MTY. This included several flights on the a319.

I have no idea why someone would like to go to a Mexican tourist destination so they can be in an american-like place with other americans. But that's neither here nor there! I prefer getting as far away from American culture as possible when I go to mexico.

DEN-DFW at 8 am tomorrow - 1 J left per expertflyer, but the waitlist seems to be gone again from the app and the website. How long before boarding is the waitlist supposed to show?

usually 12 hours before flight time (not boarding), right?

When you are a party of 2 and only one upgrade clears they have to split your reservation. So when only you cleared on the outbound RDU-CLT flight it was split at that point.

For the return flight, no other explanation really other than when the reservation was split her upgrade request somehow fell off, then the chat rep just didn't set it up properly again. Once you arrived at the airport and still didn't see her on the list you should've asked an agent there to add her, if you had already cleared she should've gone to #1 and would've most likely cleared the last seat at the gate.

For future reference I would never rely on chat for something like that, you need to call AA or ask an agent at the airport.

Thursday 11/10 CLT - SAN: cleared at PlatPro window
Monday, 11/14 SAN - PHX: cleared at T-24
Monday, 11/14 PHX - BOS: cleared at T-23

Is this the best sub to pose my question or better under business Extra you think? Wondering what ya'lls "strategy" is for applying a BXP1 certificate as an Executive Platinum? I had a flight from LAX-MIA where I wasn't clearing but I did not want to "Waste" it if I was going to clear same day. I checked in online, the list went up, and I was number 4, but ExpertFlyer showed NO seats. I thought I would ask at the check in desk at the airport about applying it but she said they don't do it there, so I figured to ask at the gate or call while in security on the way to the gate. The Aadvantage desk woman tried, but said once I am physically checked in it cannot be added/the list would not modify. My theory is that I would move from 4th to 1st assuming everyone else was on the upgrade list by way of status and not certificate. No way to know for sure of course. Had I applied it before same day, I would have been #1 more likely than #4, and indeed, 1 person did clear. But had I used it earlier in the month or when booking, I would have wondered if I would have cleared ANYWAY and would be wasting it entirely. *shrug*

Recent data point that I found interesting, 11/10 DCA-PWM, 10:10pm departure. I was #3 of 20 for zero seats, EXP 205k LP.

I’ve flown this route frequently at different times and have never seen a list this long. My upgrade usually clears in advance or I’ve been number 1. The flight was pretty full, it was the start of a long weekend, and we were on the 319, but still I was a bit surprised by length of the list.

11/14 BOS-ORD (738) mid-evening: Cleared at the EP window and we went out with 20 on the list. No one cleared.

11/15 ORD-BOS (738) mid-evening: Cleared at the window. Went out with 25 on the list snd two clearing. (Unfortunately AA seems to have ceded the ~7 pm departure to B6 so it’s either a 5 pm or 9 pm.)

11/18 JFK-BOS (E175) late: Cleared at the window for Friday’s flight. Looks wide open as of now.

Currently sitting at 486k LPs plus whatever is still remaining from the EQD conversion.

Despite being told here that "upgrades never clear from DFW" and "AA has too many elites":

DFW-DEN, Tuesday ~6pm, A321: cleared at 100 hours
(I'm just under 200K LP currently)

(flight ended up taking a return to gate aircraft swap and 4 hour delay, which was really fun after starting my day in Europe...)
