SDQ to MIA , this morning. Non alcoholic PDB was offered.
MIA to JAX boarding now(afternoonof 3/15/2022). Alcoholic PDB offered. |
On a ATL/DFW flight right now. No PDBs. FA did one round of drinks, no snack basket. I'm in 1F. I can see her sitting in her seat and playing with her phone.

On a recent STL-MIA flight, the FA came around with the most full tray of pre-poured beverages I've seen. She must have had over 10 glasses on the tray, but the options seemed to be only water, orange juice, and apple juice. This was a dinner flight that departed just after 6 PM local time.
I asked for something other than what was on the tray and was denied. She claimed catering was late (yet it had already arrived, and she was already pouring drinks in the galley when I boarded with J). I just shook my head and was about to decline the water/juice when I spotted one other plastic cup on the far side of the tray from my view with a tiny little splash of sparkling wine, and I took that. I'm not sure what's so hard about doing a customized PDB service. There were 16 J seats. Surely each drink can be made in about 30-45 seconds. That means a maximum of 12 minutes (likely faster since some people will decline drinks, just request something simple like water, etc.), and it's even faster when they use 2 FAs (one taking orders, one making drinks in the galley). Good crews definitely know how to do a PDB service efficiently, so all FAs should all be capable of being trained to do so. Clearly, it's an important part of the service to many traveling in J/F. |

Regional Flight operated by PSA airlines yesterday CLT-MYR. Full PDB selection, snack before pushback ("Capt says it might be bumpy-want to make sure you get something in case we can't get up in flight"), and generally great attitudes by FA's including the guy FA who reminded us to utilize available overhead space because "while the CRJ 900 is one of the finest aircraft in the sky- it's legroom is like being a New York Jets fan-disappointing" along with (when doing his final pre-push walk through to remind passengers ) "Sir is that book in airplane mode (actual book). Great job.

Not available on AA177 JFK-SFO last night. It was the most hapless crew so I presume they just forgot the new arrangement. Like they forgot our meal orders and names. F-cabin.

I’ve yet to see a domestic PDB in the wild since early 2020!
had a great FA tonight ATL-PHL, but no PDBs. Instead, the whole crew was frantically worrying about overhead bin space. |

When I didn't receive a PDB on JFK-LAX relatively recently, that was the excuse. They actually apologized and got me one from the galley, after I told them that I could see that J behind had at least gotten the water/OJ/sparkling wine tray. There was still plenty of time, and then the purser came over and personally explained the situation to me, again offering profuse apologies and citing the loss of an FA. On another A321T flight, I'm not sure what service issue may have prompted it, but I heard an FA giving the same speech to a passenger across the aisle about being short an FA. |
