AA "C" Inventory No Longer Available for Mileage Upgrades
Really frustrated here, perhaps I missed something. I did an inventory search using expert flyer for a trip from LAX to FCO on 10/6/2021 at 650PM connecting through London. Showed 7 "C" seats available in the inventory.
Bought an economy seat and called American to upgrade. Agent answered and said no upgrade seats available. Huh ? She said "recent changes to the system, C seats are now same as revenue and miles , but upgrade seats using miles not always available if doing money and co-pay. This made no sense to me, I never had an issue before. Agent was rather rude and short. Is this accurate ? I thought if "C" space was available upgrade seats were good to go |
The agent is correct, but if you use the "awards an upgrades" section of EF, you will be able to query the subset of C inventory available for upgrades.

You'll need to look for each segment individually |

Besides upgrade scanning, EF inventory alerts for both sold our flights and SDC are a super valuable use case.
If I wanted to SDC after an upgrade cleared to a flight with sold out J cabin I could often set a J alert on my desired flight and SDC as soon as it was J > 0. Who knows if I would have even cleared on the new flight if I was originally booked on it. AA 136 (7:50 PM departure from LAX-LHR) does show C2.
AA 134 is C0 |

Yes as noted previously the A/C inventory shown via the Award & Upgrade search is the upgrade allocation. Just be sure to search each segment individually, upgrade inventory results are NOT valid for segments that are part of a connection, only for individual segments. AA's system applies married segment logic when it shouldn't so that's the workaround.

I see, just looked at the individual segment, LAX to LHR not avail. the LHR to FCO on BA (codeshare is avail)
As I posted in the other thread, one flight does have C space. AA 136. |
OK, so can I use AA upgrade on a BA codeshare? There is an earlier flight the has C7
LAX to LHR flight 6991 |

LAX to LHR flight 6991 AA136 (LAX-LHR) is showing C2. Try that. |

No. Only AA operated and marketed flights. Therefore BA LAX-LHR and LHR-FCO cannot be upgraded.
