Flying Standby on an Award Ticket

I looked at AA.com but the answer wasn't clear. As a Platinum Pro, if I get a web special mile saver ticket for 5K miles one way that leaves at 6am, am I eligible to get a confirmed flight change on a later flight that same day? The flight has two domestic legs.

I believe that would only be allowed for EXPs. The Web Specials do not allow any changes, save for EXP.
You CAN, however, cancel your ticket, request that your miles be reinstated, and book the new ticket for the DEP you'd like.

EXP here and recently flew my first “web special” domestic economy award. Via app saw options for confirmed SDFC both legs. I was curious myself and happy to see this flexibility with web specials.

Hmmmm.....so EXPs are good to go. I guess for Pros they can't fly stand by on award web specials. Not the answer I wanted. :-0

I am a lowly Gold, and just last month I successfully stood by for earlier flights on an Economy Web Special award.

I was able to do same day confirmed as PP on web special. There was also option to standby for one of the flights that didnt have confirmed seat.

The sole reference to award tickets in the SDC / SDSB rules is that:

"Standby is not available for non-elite members traveling on an Economy MileSAAver award ticket"

No reference to web specials directly, but presuming that they are covered by this, SDSB would be available to any elite.

I will shortly fly a transatlantic flight into JFK on a web special first class fare.
I have a continuation onward to LAX - the issue being that there is a 10+ hour wait on the web special.

There are multiple flights to LAX prior to my scheduled flight.
If I have checked luggage - is there a possibility to standby?
And would there be a cost to all of this last moment?

If I can standby, could someone explain to me how to go about this?
Thank you.

You’ll have to claim and recheck your bags after clearing immigration and customs at JFK. Rather than dumping them back on the belt outside the customs hall, ask an agent to list you for standby on your desired flight. If you clear, the bags go with you. If not, they go on your original flight.

Once you’ve already surrendered your bags, often the answer is no if you ask for standby later.

Should be free, but I’ll let the others speak to that.

Standby on Web Special award

I have a Web Special award ticket and I understand that I cannot make changes; however, its not clear if this means no standby or it means no change of date.

On a Web Special award, can I go standby on an earlier flight?

The AA phone agent who I spoke with said that the system wouldnt allow her to put me on a standby list. But when Ive flown on a Web Special award before, one Admirals Club agent did a confirmed same-day flight change (although another one wouldnt, stating that it couldnt be done from an airport other than the one that the flight was departing from).

Thanks.

Yes, assuming that you're traveling within the U.S. Details here:
