JFK would be better for direct traffic, not because of its hub.

KLM offers much better service and a nicer hub.

3 things -
KLM does not fly to Casablanca. Transavia does - enjoy your flight on that 189 seat , 28 inch seat pitch, all Y 738.
JFK would defeat the purpose of the flight - to connect AA's domestic network with AT's African network.
PHL is fine as an international gateway. They just really need to get that Flagship lounge built.

Not hard to see from recent events what AA thinks of JFK...

Except I have a feeling a route like Casablanca is going to need all the connecting traffic it can get.

From North America, AC flies YUL-CMN on A330. I also wonder how much traffic AA can drive on US-CMN, it's similar to UA testing Africa on EWR-CPT going 3x weekly, but EWR/CPT are both wealthy markets and can rely on O&D, not so sure about PHL/CMN.

IMHO a new wing in the A concourse with 6-8 more wide body capable gates is needed at PHL if they want to grow their international operation more.

However the airport is very much focused on expanding cargo facilities not passenger facilities.

Have you been to Newark? it is not wealthy! Admittedly, Philly as a city has a high poverty rate but it has a lot of old money too and a lot of suburbs are quite wealthy!

AT offers connections to a number of African cities without having to add the hours and tedium of LHR and BA. Given Iberia's withdrawal of some African routes, SN joining *A, etc. this might be an opportunity well worth exploring with a 757 and measuring the value of expansion.

So it looks like going forward AA's new route strategy is to fly non-premium, no-competition market with their Economy Class-heavy aircrafts, and mostly giving up their competition in the front and on premium routes to UA and DL?

I think JFK is really a joy to connect T8-T8. The customs lines are never too long and with GE I can get from plane to lounge in 20mins, unlike ORD or LAX I need to do a terminal transfer.

The biggest problem is that AA has mostly given up in JFK (and in NYC in general). They canceled a lot of connecting frequencies from JFK so now people are stuck with a JFK-LGA inter-terminal transfer, which in turn makes their international expansion from JFK difficult.

I am kind of with PHL on this one (I think AA agrees as well). SInce so much of PHL's TATL flying is seasonal. it really does not make sense to build a bunch of gates that are only going to be used for three months out of the year. If I ran PHL I would focus on bringing in non-passenger revenue (like cargo) to help reduce the CPE and improving the "moon buggy" arrivals process.
