As long as we're being hypothetical, one might hypothesize that others who caught the same double bonus you did will be pretty unhappy that you blabbed about it here. Perhaps you are also one of the folks who calls AA about mistake fares. Hypothetically of course.

program is diluted

who has time to sit here and type all day. Bottom line: Aadvantage program is completely diluted from its original intention. BTW, SFO just lost direct flights to Hawaii...have to go thru LAX now. Lost Boston, what next? Something is definitely up. And as for venting, most things I just accept at AA as part of the world of travel, however, the customer service agents are pretty bad at responding in an articulate and informed manner. I know they read FT. Maybe they will respond.

In what way? AAdvantage's intention is to create loyalty to AA and allow AA to increase fares and generate alternative streams of revenue through mileage because people are irrational about this second form of currency. Seems from this thread and others, including this whole website that the intentions of AAdvantage is alive and well.

SFO is not one of the "cornerstone strategy" but does have flights to its 5 "cornerstone strategy" cities of ORD, JFK, MIA, DFW and LAX.

That's how its going to be for a while-unfortunately....:(:td:

Have not read through all 25 pages here - but it is clear that AA are not interested in UK customers any more.

The Amex card in the UK will not earn towards the status in the same way as the US credit card does.

What advantages are there for non-US residents? (short of rewards, which any airline would give)

This is only the situation for 1 year. After that time, it will be the same for all. You could substitute UK with any country with that argument ; e.g. AU customers will not get points towards status with miles transferred

It isn't that they are uninterested in UK per se, just that they are not interested in giving status to people just for an ability to spend money on a credit card.

Fly on a OW carrier and you will get points towards status which will be same for anyone , wherever in the world from end of next year

I assume you reached your latest MM level after Jan 1 this year, as specified? If so, I would contact AmericanAirlines who posted the offer or follow the FT adage of calling back and getting another agent.

Is it just me or maybe AA is thinking about this?

AA could get some serious revenue if they offer a DEQM/TEQM for flight in OCT-NOV. This will force quite a few people to spend some money to get over the 1M/2M humps.

I wouldnt think so. Those that are close enough to make such an activity potentially worthwhile will be close enough that they will get there anyway soon enough. Few people will take flights just for the sake of taking flights

Um, isn't that the very definition of an MR? ;)

Taken strictly, I think so.

Taken loosely, I've been accused of it just for taking a circuitous routing on a flight I actually had to take for other reasons :)
