UPDATE:
I got through to customer service yesterday and the agent said she saw the mistakes made during the previous two attempts to swap my MM stickers for the miles. She said that within 48 hours this would be fixed. This morning the correct number of miles (35,000) had posted. No trace of the erroneous 4000 mile deposit. My upgrade balance is also correct. Very relieved that this has now been rectified. My 35,000 miles indeed had the same description ("Customer Service Bonus"). Clearly something did go wrong in my case, but, I can't recall any one else's description of what the 35,000 miles were. |

We have good news for some of you. Members who have earned 1 Million Miler status since January 1, 2011, will have a limited opportunity to exchange eight (8) 500-mile upgrades for 35,000 AAdvantage bonus miles if none of the upgrades have been used. Please call AAdvantage Customer Service at 1-800-882-8880 (say “AAdvantage Account” when prompted at the Main Menu) to request this transaction.

Have you used any stickers? I have 5 stickers and became LTG in march of this year, I want to know, if I buy 3 stickers will they swap them for the 35k miles. |

This is getting quite ironic now - agents are pushing dining program / hotel booking / car rental reservation at the end of each call to tout the miles earning opportunities... On each and every such push I told them I would seriously re-consider to give AA all the auxiliary revenues with the program changes - I would still use such opportunities ONLY WHEN THEY HAVE AN EDGE ABOVE OTHER PROGRAMS PROMOTIONS. Gone are the days when even AA's offers are somewhat inferior but I would still justify it due to the Million Miler program. Now the incentive or the "perceived" incentive is gone so everything would be compared with a more realistic perspective. Not a bad thing in some ways. For example, right now I have the targeted offer from UA's Months of Miles to earn 1000 miles for every 2 partner transactions - so all the partner activities would go to UA now instead of piling on AA blindly.

Dayone,
I did, but does it hurt to ask??? if live as taught me anything, is that anything is possible. I had no luck with a situation that I thought was stronger than yours, but others have reported being able to convert stickers to miles even though they didn't even meet the terms of the offer (passed 1MM in a previous year). So, the answer is - probably not, but YMMV. |

Thanks
Thanks for telling us about the upgrades/35,000 miles exchange. I called yesterday. Took forever on the phone, but miles posted this morning. The agent did not try to push dining, etc. Very polite.

I have always found the Aadvantage 'unadvertised' MM program to be special. It encouraged me to dine, shop, etc. to amass miles towards my next million (love the SWU. hate the copay). That is how I was able to become LTPL. Of course flying a fair amount each year contributed as well.
With a few flights before 12/1/11, I will be 69K short of the next million. I'll continue to dine, shop, etc. to get as close as possible. However, the next million will be much more difficult to attain. Therefore, as of 12/1/11 I will probably dine, shop, etc. with other airlines to build up my bank for upgrades and free flights (have 600K in my AA bank). While I am just one person (actually 3 counting my family), my loyalty to AA will be somewhat diminished because of their new program rules. As they say, nothing is forever. :( |

Which is the very reason United are proposing a revenue based system, and I'm sure everyone else will follow.
On AA you can spend $100,000 and not be Platinum You can also spend $5000 and be Exe Plat American Airlines should be more than happy to award the big spender Concierge Key. |

Seems like a lot of people ostensibly are going to possibly end their Citibank, dining, etc. with AA due to the fact it won't add to the MM status.
I plan on sticking with most of the various AA programs because most of those will still get me tens of thousands of miles/year. Now if AA starts to devalue their miles like DL has with their "Skypesos" then I would probably end a number of my AA-tied rewards. YMMV. Dan |

You can try, but only do this if you would use the stickers anyway because I doubt it will work.
I just got off the phone with an agent who informed me that despite the fact that the last stickers deposited into my account were from passing the 1 million mark, those stickers are used *first* before any others. Since I have received a couple of short hop upgrades between now and then, even though my current balance is more than 8, converting to miles is a no-go. I think this offer is really intended for people who don't fly domestically at all. I had 4 stickers deposited on 2/11/11, then the 8 MM stickers deposited on 2/23/11.. then I used 2 stickers in March 2011. While on the phone with the AA rep, I also learned that the MM stickers are used first, even before the 4 previously deposited stickers. Thus, the exchange didn't automatically work on her computer.. but she put it through via 2 transactions: removing the 8 stickers and then adding the 35k miles. Posts as Customer Service Bonus or something like that. If you can make the case that you could've paid for all of your upgrades with pre-MM stickers, then maybe it's a longshot.. ? If you didn't have enough pre-MM stickers though, then I'm guessing it won't go through. |
Need Advice Achieving 1 Million Miles
I currently have 797K program to date miles, so I am assuming I need just over 200K to make it to Lifetime Gold status at 1 million miles.
I applied for the Visa and Amex personal cards and should have 150K miles posted within a month or 2 with those. Since I cannot apply for the Citi Business Visa card for 65 days, is there any way I could guarantee those 75K points make it into my account by Nov 30. I have no problem spending the money to get the points within the time limit, but since I won't be able to apply for that card until the beginning of November, is there any way to get those points credited to me in November since the bill cycle won't close till probably the beginning of December? Could I ask Citi to close it early once I spend the $1.5K so that it would credit in November? If so, when would I need to have them close the billing cycle by? Thanks |

Joined the game late and now boxed out. I've been flying AA the past seven years as either Gold or Plat. On average, I fly 40K miles a year and figured that if I stayed loyal to AA, I could attain LTP in about 10 to 12 years time. All my miles had been through flying since I never did go for the Citi Aadvantage card since I got more value from hotel points with the credit card that I use. As it stands now, I'll have to fly another 10 years just to get LTG. Bummer. Wished that I had signed up for the Citi Aavantage cards, maybe I would be LTG by now or at elast a whole lot closer.
