My AA2580 JFK-CLT tonight, a 4 row FC A321 cabin, has 4/16 free, if you count the deadhead flight crew next to me...only 2 on the upgrade list in the app. Weirdly when I checked just before boarding #2 had cleared but #1 hadn’t.

I see that from time to time and not just on 3 class a/c. I find that flights like this, 500-700 miles meaning no meal GLDs and PLTs may not want to waste 2 stickers so thus F empty seats, assuming not taken by crew.

Been a while since I've seen this, at least since travel came back.
AA 4566 BDL-DCA yesterday on an EMB-175. 9/12 in First with no upgrade list. |

1/2 the F cabin was free on a 6am DEN-ORD on a Saturday, so not unexpected. But honestly as an EXP I’ve been less than 50% on UG to/from DEN the past few months.

2 seats open on my ORD-AUS a couple weeks ago even after all upgrade and standby cleared.

Twice this year on the Saturday evening JFK<>LAX (non red-eye) I have had an empty seat next to me in J. One was before the sticker conversion (so not the same), one after.
Love when it happens, even better than an F op-up. I can have a personal screen just dedicated to the flight map :) |

I often see empty F seats on our flight to CLT (from SBN). I think there just aren't that many elites living in the area and it's not a community with a large population of folks willing to buy first class tickets. Interestingly, I've not seen the same on our DFW flights. I think that route is more business-travel oriented and probably gets more DFW-based elites flying that CLT gets CLT-based elites.
When AA runs its football weekend flights to/from LGA, the first cabin is always full. |
Finally get to post in this thread.
I am the only customer in F this morning on CMH-LGA on a 175. There are probably only 25 people on the whole flight. Almost feels like 2020 this morning. |
Flew CLL to DFW last night on a 175. I was upgraded at the window and out of 9 F seats 4 were occupied. I counted 23 people in the back.
What a great flight--quiet, had two beers, and watched out the clean window of the quiet 175. |
Had a couple last weekend:
1. AA 4361 RDU-JFK EMB-175: Booked 6/12 in F. As this flight leaves after 8 PM I'm hardly surprised. In fact, I don't know why AA even runs this leg, especially on a Saturday 2. AA 4334 ORH-JFK EMB-175. Booked 1/12 in F. My first time solo in F since April, 2020. |
BOS-PHL last Sunday on A321 had ~4 F seats free. We were originally scheduled to fly with an A320 but an A321 was subbed in that morning, along with a variable 2-3hr delay (it went up and down all day!) that I suspect caused a lot of pax to misconnect. Y was also light, maybe 60 seats free if I recall.
|
Last night ATL/MIA went out over 3 hours late. By that time the flight was down to maybe 50 paxs-321neo. One upgrade request of course cleared. GA went back and pulled random paxs from Y to fill F. Another 20 minute delay on the tarmac as the Captain indicated the shifting of seats forced a weight and balance re-calculation.
