But then you get a DYKWIA'er in first throwing a hissy fit and insisting on going first. There really was such an event reported on one of the DYKWIA threads recently.

So, I may need extra time to board, because of issues, should I then inform the GA?

Winner, Winner Chicken dinner. Flying is no longer the elite way to travel unless you can afford J or F. Economy long haul is a undesirable product with the cramped seating, if that is what I can afford, then that is a choice I make.Extra legroom This from the Greyhound website.
When designing our new and updated buses, we actually removed a whole row of seats rather than trying to squeeze more in. So there's always space to stretch out when you ride with Greyhound. (Our bus designers must have been really tall.)

Depending on your class of service and airport, American's Five Star service is very pricey but will board you even ahead of CKs and pre-boards. Service-wise, it's probably one of the things that American gets right pretty consistently.

To each their own - what kind of amusement park ride offers you the chance to cram into a tiny tube with unrealistic exceptions, questionable air, a healthy dose of radiation, slow Wi-Fi, salty snacks, accompanied by safety specialists wanting to extend you credit before hurtling through the skies at hundreds of miles an hour? And when you're all done, you get this funny money miles that can be used for magazine subscriptions. I know of no other experience that includes that combination of fun. It just sounds well worth getting to the airport hours early and standing at attention ahead of everyone else in the wrong line to ensure that you are guaranteed a spot on board.
There really are some good and excellent gate agents out there who work very hard and deal with stress every hour of their day for relatively little remuneration.
If you find one, AA lore says that they lead you to a pot of sAAver award seats.

If you're in a military town, there will be a ton of folks boarding in Group 1. Tampa is definitely a military town and I have zero issue with them getting on before everyone else. It does cause some issues however as there are gate lice that rush to board when they see that many people rushing for the gate. I have definitely had occurrences where CK was called, then the next thing I heard was Group 2 (which usually has 2-3 people in it) and then Group 3 comes right after. So, if I'm not hangin' with the gate lice I can be skipped over quickly. The problem is if you're in First and seated in bulkhead you're luggage situation means you'll be putting things back in MCE.

Gotta love consistency. At LAX the other night, they called CK and Group 1, then Group 2 (there were some Group 2 folks this time),and then immediately jumped to Group 4....

This. I was thinking the other day how they should just call CK and group 1 at the same time. While I get the "importance" of CK's, it seems silly to let people who may be sitting in economy, to board before your paid premium cabin customers. Same time? Sure. Before? Eh.

It's the same four passengers whose names are Cecil Kay and Cecilia Kay making their rounds at airports. Each time "CK"s are asked to board, they dutifully troop on the jet-bridge to the chagrin of the rest of the waiting masses.

Greyhound is noted up-thread: for many routes at each gate there are roped-off lanes, seats 1-10, 11-20 etc., pax in 1-10 board, then 11-20 etc.--when things work correctly this is OK...but they don't always work correctly
