Another item to consider that may factor into the equation / the $600 difference other than the convenience. I’m assuming that you’ll have plenty of time for the land transfer, but odds of being protected across PNRs in the event of a delay will likely be lower given the airport differences versus connecting in PHL. I don’t recall what the rules are on non-AA operated legs, but AA will protect across separate PNRs.

As a postscript, I have an interesting data point to bring to the table.

So, being slightly paranoid, I decided to email AA to confirm what we think to be true, and if I understand their reply aright, it seems that I can access an FL at a different airport only if my flight at that airport is on the same ticket as my arriving one. Conversely, there seems to be no issue if I self-connect at the same airport.

But here's what was said in the email:

'*** Please make sure your ticket Qatar to Philadelphia and connecting through JFK (sic). If your tickets are booked separately then you can not access to our lounges (sic) for the short haul domestic flight.***'

The people that answer customer relations emails like that at AA are not going to have a clue about detailed AA/oneworld lounge access policy. Waste of time to even ask, you could email them 10 times and get 10 different answers. It is no problem to access oneworld lounges with separate tickets.

Oh, no, I wasn't contesting that - I know that that's true - nor was that the question under discussion. The question was whether you can access lounges with separate tickets at different airports (on the same day) - I believe that that remains a slightly grey area, no?

No I gotcha, yea separate airports is for sure a little bit of a grey area but in theory it shouldn't matter. It's really no different than if you were flying say DOH-JFK on one ticket, connecting to JFK-DFW-LAX on another ticket, and we're trying to access the FL at DFW.

But the point remains about the email folks not having a clue.

Right, that makes sense. And, yes, I totally concede the point about the email folks - I wasn't trying to defend them (nope, not me!); I'd just thought that you might have missed the first half of the discussion, that's all. Thanks for bringing additional clarity to the issue! Very appreciated :tu:

Hello. I'm 100K on Alaska.I booked with Alaska points a FC ticket MIA--MEX. Can I use the Admirals Club or Flagship lounge in MIA on that ticket to MEX?

What about upon arrival in MEX? Can I use the lounge in MEX (I'm taking a bus onward to another city in Mexico from T1).

Thanks!

Admirals club. you'd need a long haul flight (Asia, Australia, Europe, South America - Argentina, Chile, Brazil) to qualify for the FL. No access in MEX as you'd have to clear immigration and then are unable to get back airside.

From my POV, it should not be an issue. The rule says:
"First or Business on a qualifying same-day international, transcontinental or other domestic flight marketed and operated by American, a oneworld® airline or Aer Lingus"
No where does it say same airport, so IMHO you should be fine. However, the people at entry have made up their own rules/interpretations on multiple occasions.
We will be interested to see how this plays out. Good luck.

FJ access at DFW

There are some posts further upthread about access when flying FJ, but they all seem to be prior to FJ's elevation to a full oneworld member.

My wife (AA PRO) and I (AA EXP) will be flying in FJ biz class from DFW-NAN soon. I assume we'll have access to the Flagship Lounge at DFW by virtue of both our AA status and our class of service.

The only thing that has me second guessing is the list of geographies on the AA FL page. The page lists Asia, Australia, Europe, Middle East, New Zealand and deep South America. To the best of my knowledge, Fiji is none of these, (AA could have said Oceania if that's what they meant) and I can't find region definitions on AA's website.

Can anyone confirm FL access when flying FJ?

You will have FL access at DFW. Don't worry about the "geographies" on the FL page at aa.com, the qualifying destinations listed only encompass where AA flies with their own metal, and in any event it hasn't been updated since FJ joined oneworld.

Flying MSP-DFW on the early morning flight soon, with a checked bag. As BA gold/one world emerald I believe I'd have lounge access in DFW on arrival. Looks like it's unlikely that flight will get a gate near the flagship lounge though. I will most likely be travelling with a checked bag. Is it worth heading to the flagship lounge for a late breakfast when I get in? How does that work with a checked bag to collect as well?

  1. You will have access to the FL.
  2. It is quite easy to get around via Skylink. Usually under 10 minutes
  3. If you have a checked bag, you will need to leave it on the belt and pick it up from the baggage office later.
  4. Is it worth it? Depends on you.

This has probably been answered somewhere above, but this is a VERY long thread so apologies if asking a dumb question.

Is it true that if flying on AA North America with my AA EXP FF# in the reservation, but by simply showing my BA Gold status separately, I can access the FL (and even bring a guest if guest also flying AA)?

If so, what do you do? Scan the AA BP (which would otherwise not even grant me access, let alone a guest), then say "But I'm also BA Gold" and pull that out and scan it? And that's it--guest and I breezed through, no questions asked?

That's pretty much it, typically they will have to manually key in your BA# as well.
