2016 Program Year Elite Status Buyback / Renew / Boost (consolidated)

In previous years, AA (and US) has offered those who failed to requalify for elite status the opportunity to buy back or "boost" status for the following status year. AA offers the program once again for c/y 2015 - status year 2016 (29 Feb 2016 - 28 Feb 2017 <sic>), as shown in a new FAQ on aa.com.

Q. How long do I have to purchase the offer?

Offers must be purchased by July 31, 2016, unless otherwise stated.

I received an email from executive office that there will be buy-up program like in the past.
No details were given and it was a month ago.

I posted a question on advantage forum because last wk I received an email from AA regarding a boost to gold status for $649. I was asking was it worth it or if cheaper to do a mileage run. Hopefully, moderator will move post to this site

I got my email to boost up to Plat, but the irony was I earned Plat this past month on flight back from Asia. I called the Plat support line asking why if I just earned Plat why would I have to "boost" up for 2016? Took them 15 minutes but they realized somehow they put Feb 2016 as my end date and corrected the problem. My offer was 899 to retain Plat

I am an Explat this year from USAirways. When I log in to boost/renew, I get this: "Thanks for visiting. Our records show that you're not eligible to receive an offer this year."

Currently have about 81,500 miles and just received an email that I made another 10,000 EQM on credit card purchases. I have a trip to CDG in December. Am I missing something? Why would I not get an offer this year?

You haven't flown enough yet this year to get an offer. When you cross 85,000 miles, you'll be eligible to boost to EXP for 2016 for $2499.

I'm all for making people earning status and keeping the bar high for buy-ups, that said I think in this case AA is attaching a bit more value to a single EQP than is reasonable. I got this email:
Extend your Executive Platinum status for only $1,799
AAdvantage Executive Platinum Your American Airlines AAdvantage® Executive Platinum status is set to expire on February 29, 2016, and we want to offer you an opportunity to continue enjoying Executive Platinum benefits through the 2016 membership year.

Act now, and we'll extend your Executive Platinum status for only $1,799. You'll continue to enjoy exceptional benefits including upgrades, free checked bags and much more. See a full list of benefits >>

Once you purchase, we'll extend your elite status through February 2017.
and...I think I'll be OK thanks. Hate to see what they want if someone is 10 or 15K short!

This is an academic question since both my wife and I will re-qualify for Gold and Platinum with trips scheduled before the end of the year, but when I logged in out of curiosity to see our boost prices, I got the same massage for both of us:

"Our records show that you're not eligible to receive an offer this year."
Wife - 2015 Gold - Earned in late 2014 when I nominated her to US Silver with the Special Dividends program.
EQM 2015 to date - 21,020

Me - 2015 Platinum - Earned by US Buy-up in late 2014
EQM 2015 to date - 45,282
Is it possible that only those who earned 2015 status through actual miles or segments in 2014 are eligible? Nothing I can see in the FAQ or T&C says that. Just curious.

Advantage - Boost or Renew for 2016

I received an email to renew my status or boost to the next status. Is this a good deal?

The 2016 AAdvantage® elite status qualification year ends on December 31, 2015. Not on track to reach your goal? You still have two ways to step up your status:

Boost your status

You can boost to the next level if you're within 15,000 elite-qualifying miles or points of your desired status based on your 2015 activity. You can also boost to the next level if your 2015 activity is within 18 elite-qualifying segments of AAdvantage Gold or AAdvantage Platinum status or within 20 elite-qualifying segments of AAdvantage Executive Platinum status. Plus, you’ll start enjoying your benefits in five business days.

Renew your status

If you weren’t able to retain your elite status, you can renew your status to begin on March 1, 2016.

If you pay to boost or renew and qualify on your own later, we don’t offer refunds.

See if you qualify for an elite status boost or renewal:

Gold status

2015 elite-qualifying miles or points 2015 elite-qualifying segments Price
20,000 – 24,999 24 – 29 Boost for $399
15,000 – 19,999 18 – 23 Boost for $499
10,000 – 14,999 12 – 17 Boost for $649
Not within range for a boost? Current Gold, Platinum and Executive Platinum members are eligible for a Gold renewal offer at a cost of $649.

Gold status normally requires 25,000 elite-qualifying miles, points, or 30 segments.

Platinum status

2015 elite-qualifying miles or points 2015 elite-qualifying segments Price
45,000 – 49,999 54 – 59 Boost for $699
40,000 – 44,999 48 – 53 Boost for $899
35,000 – 39,999 42 – 47 Boost for $1,199
Not within range for a boost? Current Platinum and Executive Platinum members are eligible for a Platinum renewal offer at a cost of $1,199.

Platinum status normally requires 50,000 elite-qualifying miles, points, or 60 segments.

Executive Platinum status

2015 elite-qualifying miles or points 2015 elite-qualifying segments Price
95,000 – 99,999 114 – 119 Boost for $1,199
90,000 – 94,999 108 – 113 Boost for $1,799
85,000 – 89,999 100 – 107 Boost for $2,499
Renewal not available.

Executive Platinum status normally requires 100,000 elite-qualifying miles, points, or 120 segments.

Ready to step up your status?
Boost or renew now

Hi, I also go the same error. I called customer service and they said that is a technical issue. They told me there is nothing preventing me from being eligible... and they opened a "tech" ticket and told me to check in a few days.

Anyone else get this not eligible e-mail?

I just want to clarify....if i let my status drop from EXplat to nothing, and then all my 500 mile upgrades go away, if i decide at a later date I want to purchase gold then do those come back? Do I start at the gold level qualifying for the year in segments or do I still have to follow the same segment rules?
I really have no clue whats going to happen. thanks guys!!
