I'm still more likely to fly DFW-SYD on QF than LAX-SYD on AA but at least it opens more reward/upgrade oppportunities, no matter how rare they are, on AA.

At the very least, you'll have an even shot at premium savers if you book at 330 days, whereas with QF metal, their members get a 30 day advantage.

AA to Fly LAX-SYD (to be announced Tue 9 Jun 2015)

Does Delta still serves LAX-SYD? I known it was operating 777-200LR, am I correct?

A FA on an intl flight confirmed this two weeks ago LAX-SYD. She said that plans are well underway.

Yes, this route still exists and is operated by a 77L.

It is good news for AA. I just hope that the arrival time doesn't overlap with other international arrivals, which will be very difficult for TSA and CBT immigration.

I think this is the end of JFK-LAX-SYD on QF metal. The 77W would make all sense in the world as it won't require weight restrictions like the Dreamliner. AA has three 77Ws to be delivered and with current state of affairs in Brazil right now, they might also pull some of the 77Ws off of GRU considering they have five daily 77W flights.
I'm not so sure they have financial troubles, per se, although they are still talking about "transformation" benefits

SYDNEY, 26 February 2015: Qantas today reported an Underlying Profit Before Tax of $367 million and a Statutory Profit After Tax of $206 million for the six months ended 31 December 2014.

This Underlying Profit Before Tax is Qantas’ best first-half performance since 2010 and an improvement of $619 million compared with the same period last year.

The main factors in the underlying improvement were:

· $374 million - Qantas Transformation program benefits;

· $208 million - reduced depreciation;

· $162 million - increased revenue per available seat kilometre;

· $59 million - removal of the carbon tax; and

· $33 million - lower fuel prices.

UA is getting rid of its 744s, w/o any 748s or A-380s what should they do CX the route, they use the 777 which probably will mean more $$ to their bottom line. Plus they probably see SYD as a leisure route to boot

I would prefer hearing that AA is adding some European destinations non-stop instead.Both DL & UA are killing them in this dept

I meant LAX-SYD.

Sounds to me like this is AA competing with DL for a prime route. AA and QF have IFC, with AA showing off its nice new 77W here.

DL uses the 777 which is very nice, where business class seems enhanced to be more like business-first. DL has a JV with VA so that together they cover not only SYD but also MEL and BNE nonstop from LAX. Schedule times for all of the DL and VS flights are similar, around midnight for all of these flights.

A little price war competition from LAX - SYD would be nice to see from AA and DL.

I remember when DL did the JV with Virgin I got an amazing deal, would love to go back.

I would guess that in reality those willing to pay a premium for F will be on QF, not AA. The 8 seat AA 77W cabin will likely be a few discounted F tickets and some SWUs from J. This big question for me is how will the J business be distributed.

I sure hope they start those routes soon. I used some Delta points to fly LAX to SYD. But I was fortunate to find a Virgin Australia flight open through Delta and used half the points to fly first that I would of if I booked a Delta flight.
