Just to add a new data point. Just got upgraded 130pm Friday EST for my LGA-DTW flight at 405pm this coming Monday the 6th.

I'm guessing being on the Pall list was due to the miles/copay wait list. I saved the trip receipt in case they try to do it after audit - it seems like that given two different upgrade inventory classes (C and R), I would have a good case to argue that since there wasn't C inventory, it couldn't have been miles/copay (of course, I couldn't prove that there wasn't C inventory and some other system error caused it to show R)

Data point: As EXP, upgraded at T-24 today for my flight tomorrow ORD/CLT. EF was showing J7 with 8 seats open. A few (3 or 4) CK and/or EXP's were upgraded at the 72 hour window based on watching the seat map. A few weeks ago before whatever AA adjusted, this would have been either a final sweep or gate upgrade. So something has indeed improved.
|
And one more update...T-101 or so on CLT/ORD on Thursday! First one of these in a very long time. 10 currently open on the seat map after upgrades, and EF is J7/C2.
|
Indeed, good news with the upgrades. ORD-DEN flight had 11 unassigned seats in F and at around T-48, I and about 8 others were upgraded. Received the upgrade E-mail too. :)

T-100 SAT->DFW upgraded (FC Looked empty). T-48 DFW->MEM upgraded (2 seats left in FC).

I called AA EXP desk to see if I was losing my mind. This is not the AA I've been flying for 20 years most of these two decades as an EXP. We're now just 8 days out on DFW-GRU on the 787-9 with 23 out of 30 seats unsold in Business and still SWU request I made in October is not processing. All the agent had to say was he would almost guarantee I would get the upgrade but that corporate hadn't released any upgrade seats. What gives???

One of my flights on Wednesday was upgraded this morning, DFW-GSP. I'm also flying AUS-DFW (leaving AUS at 7am), and that seems to be an extremely difficult upgrade. |

Since I have EF sometimes I will get a notification before they clear me and when that happen, I just make a quick call before it disappear. Example DFW-GRU is showing 2 "C" available for 2/7/2017 and 7 "J" for sale. 2/12 show sold out in Business, 2/13 have 5 seats available for sale and 2/14 more than 7 |

I didn't think there was an upgrade window for international flights like GRU? Has that changed?
Although, now that the technical issue that caused the thread has been rectified, maybe doesn't mater much how the thread is utilized, otherwise will just be people continuing to post their domestic upgrades clearing when they historically had-- which is great-- but at this juncture, no dispute that the issue (domestic upgrades not clearing till day of travel/at airport) is fixed. |
My upgrades for my upcoming trip on Wednesday evening, including a transcontinental flight, cleared an hour ago.
Seems like they have fixed the issue with upgrades and are starting to clear complimentary upgrades with more regularity in advance - not necessarily at the window but not always at 4-6 hours out. |

Never has been - I really wish people would stop coming to this thread to gripe about international upgrades. There is NO window! |

Elite passengers in American’s AAdvantage loyalty program have been scratching their heads for the last few months over a strange hiccup in the airline’s upgrade process. Typically, elite passengers on legacy carriers can be upgraded (with space available) anywhere between 24 hours and 10 days in advance — a small perk for being loyal to the airline. On American, however, those upgrades had mysteriously stopped getting processed. Last week, American rooted out the source of the problem, which was apparently a bug in the upgrade system, and returned the process to normal. The bug was confirmed by a spokesperson for the airline, saying “we did experience a small technical issue that was impacting upgrades clearing. It’s been fixed and the process for clearing upgrades is working as it should.” Repairs to the upgrade process couldn’t have come soon enough for the legions of AAdvantage members confused by inconsistency across recent experiences. On Flyertalk, a forum dedicated to airline rumors and discussion, a thread started in March of 2015 had gathered over a thousand posts over the course of 84 pages where AAdvantage members speculated on the source of the problem. |
