Jon, which should be processed if inside the window- waitlisted miles plus copay upgrades or 500 mile complimentary upgrades.

and thanks or all your contributions to this issue!

It depends--those two types of upgrades come out of different inventory buckets (C for miles+copay and SWU and R for 500-mile and EXP/PPRO complimentary upgrades). It is up to RM if, when, and by how much to open the respective inventory for each flight.

Thanks! I thought it wasX for the complimentary upgrades, but I haven't kept up with the changes.

flightlessbirds Feb 2, 2017 12:31 pm

X became R when domestic first was reclassified with business fare codes in January

COU-DFW-HKG 1/26, return 2/1, SWU cleared ~T-72 both ways. Also somehow the return ended up classified "special fare" so I got way more EQD/RDM than I was supposed to.

Thanks for the suggestion to go thru MCO. Is TAM lie flat MCO to GRU? I'm not too picky about shabbiness - after all, I've been flying old US 737s and AB 321s on the old AA routes and sucked it up post merger.

I paid for a few J JFK-GRU trips when they were in the high $2k low $3k but now that the real is back to just above 3 to a dollar, back to $6-$7k (which I will not pay). In the past year, I've posted comments to AA customer service thanking them for the upgrade but telling them the gap in price between economy and biz is too much for personal travel. As a data point, I made a suggestion about what I would be willing to pay, and have paid in the past. For what it is worth. As you can expect I get a canned email response thanking me for loyalty, yada yada....

Yes, it's the 767-300, lie flat from MCO-GRU. Sadly, the equipment was the A350, but they swapped for the 767-300 and the A350 to the GRU-MAD flights.

when I got EXP upgrades this week (3/4) they cleared at T100....

ramolnar Feb 2, 2017 6:33 pm

Another data point for everyone:
OKC - DFW - SAN 2/4 AM just cleared with companion on 500-mile upgrades at T-40 or so

cova Feb 2, 2017 6:48 pm

Two segments cleared (different times) for 2/4 at around T-40 for each. I am a little surprised that the second segment cleared this soon, as in the past it usually cleared at T-24 or T-4.

Again - no upgrade emails.

But I do get emails about certain AC's being closed due to remodeling when I am passing through that city. So that is nice.

Kinda funny in light of your posts above.

Data point JFK ZUR 2/3 upgrade granted T+30 for EXP and non status spouse. Plenty of J inventory available since last week so maybe that's how the route manage manages it. Two C seats were made available at about T+100 but I was told a CK was ahead of me and our record locator would be split for the return if I took the seat and waited for her upgrade to clear.

Just got upgraded for my Thursday evening flight from ORD-LGA....over two days in advance. Glad to see this issue fixed as it was extremely irritating.

I got both legs cleared (1766/2298) dca-dfw-den for 4 Feb at T-38 hrs. J on ef, the new f for 2-class was showing 7 for both and 11 open seats on 1766 yesterday. Like you I'm grateful they are working on this.

I'm surprised I cleared my Thursday evening flight ORD-LGA (albeit I was probably one of the last ones as my auto seat assignment was 3E). It looked like half, maybe more, of the FC cabin were CK by the premium service rep paging people, shaking their hands, introducing herself and having them wait by the counter for pre-boarding.

No kidding, that's a tough route...I get the feeling you have to be EXP to even get a coach seat sometimes!

I'm guessing whatever is happening now is not 100% the way it will be when all the IT issues are sorted out.

1) Was on waitlist for miles and copay for months
2) Cleared within the window (T-50), received an email
3) Checked my trip receipt, showed R (sticker upgrade)
4) When I checked in on my phone, it said it couldn't add me to the airport upgrade list, to see an agent.
5) When I get to the gate, I am on the upgrade list (#6); but I double check with the gate agent and yes, she shows me as already upgraded.

I'm guessing being on the Pall list was due to the miles/copay wait list. I saved the trip receipt in case they try to do it after audit - it seems like that given two different upgrade inventory classes (C and R), I would have a good case to argue that since there wasn't C inventory, it couldn't have been miles/copay (of course, I couldn't prove that there wasn't C inventory and some other system error caused it to show R)

T-59 for the Sunday 6p DFW-ORD on a 321. EXP -- was on same flight two weeks ago and it cleared T-14 (with non status companion that time). Definitely good to see them bring the window back :) and get to pre-order meals again! Now if they could fix the rest of their IT.
