Nothing new

Try United. A kettle will grab 'your' upgrade during OLCI for $69 and you'll be in the back of the bus.... Loyalty & United, two words that don't go together.

The New American.

I just flew LAS-PHX, at T-100 EF was showing F7. My upgrade cleared at T-24. At LAS, there were 4 names on the upg list--all of them cleared.
I too am puzzled why my upg didn't clear at T-100.
But, on a recent flight I had an upgrade that cleared at T-110.

Although we are lowly platinum's, my husband and I have noticed that many upgrades have cleared less than 24 hours before departure. As long as they clear, we are happy.

If AA thinks they can sell a ticket last minute that’s a Y-UP or a First ticket, then why should AA lose out on possible revenue, versus giving it away free to an elite last minute at the gate?

On many routes, AA has drastically slashed the price of F, for advanced purchases.

Both of these seem to be the recipe that the new American is using to create more profit for the carrier.

AA's new "Platinum Pro" status may change upgrade rates for "regular" Platinums.

I am also experiencing this as well. Had an upgrade clear 30 hours out this week on STL-ORD-PHL. The STL-ORD FC cabin went out with 4 empty seats!

No, that won't work, I cannot panic enough to pay for domestic first...:p

LAA flights/routes seem to more frequently clear at T100 than LUS flights/routes in my most recent experience. The LUS still clear but it seems more frequently it's closer in, or even day of.

Anecdotal but if I've seen any pattern, that is one.

This.

I always find it funny when people are outraged at not getting upgraded 4 days in advance. If it's that important, switch to another carrier and I'll happily take your gate upgrade. :)

AA will just put smaller planes on the route, seats are there to sell, and profit is not a dirty word, but stability.

LAX-CLT....T-4 hours and 1 at T-25 minutes.

My LUS flights clear closer to when the window opens than LAA, so YMMV.

just adding my 2 cents, my LHR-ORD SWU cleared 12 hours before departure, got on the plane, business was more than 70% empty

I in general as an EXP are finding more times of being pulled out of Y at the last minute. However, I haven't experience some massive wholesale changes in upgrading and still get a decent share at T-100. I find the shorter 500 to 700 mile flights to be easier to upgrade and typically clear at T-100. I assuming you can get certain paxs to pay for discounted domestic F on longer flights but not shorter flights.
