Archive Of ORIGINAL AAdvantage Aviator Silver and Red Cards from BarclayCard

FOR CURRENT THREAD SEE HERE.

NOTE: The BarclayCard US Airways Aviator credit cards were offered to US Airways Dividend Miles members and "grandfathered in" to the AAdvantage program. Now you can sign up for several Aviator cards, though the Silver Card is generally available after one has had another Aviator Card at least three months.

There are five AAdvantage-linked Aviator-branded cards by Barclaycard. An April 2015 article on The Points Guy details them.

The Many Flavors of Barclaycard AAdvantage Aviator (Jason Steele, April 13th, 2015).

Where can I see information on all available Barclays Barclaycard AAdvantage cards?

Link to American Airlines® AAdvantage® Aviator™ Silver World Elite MasterCard® Reward Rules T&C (Feb 2017)

Aviator Red applications are available at the airport or in flight in 2017, or online at https://home.barclaycardus.com

New Red cardholders may apply to upgrade to Aviator Silver after 90 days. Existing Red cardholders (prior to 2017) may apply to upgrade to Silver at any time.

Aviator Silver offers EQM:

"Additional Benefits of your Account

Elite Qualifying Miles

The primary cardmember may earn 5,000 Elite Qualifying Miles ("EQMs") after spending $20,000 in Net Purchases that post to the AAdvantage® Aviator™ Silver account from January 1st through December 31st each calendar year. The primary cardmember may earn an additional 5,000 AAdvantage® EQMs each calendar year when the cardmember reaches $40,000 in spending on Net Purchases with the AAdvantage Aviator Silver account during the same period. An AAdvantage® Aviator™ Silver primary cardmember may earn the maximum 10,000 EQMs once per calendar year, unless the cardmember has already earned the maximum number of EQMs through another AAdvantage® Aviator™ Silver account. EQMs earned are in addition to the AAdvantage miles earned for Net Purchases made on the AAdvantage®Aviator™ Silver account. Net Purchases exclude returned goods and services, cash advances, convenience checks, transferred balances, credits, fees and interest charges. Net Purchases made by authorized users through additional cards on the primary cardmember's AAdvantage® Aviator™ Silver account will count toward the primary cardmember's qualifying spend. EQMs earned as a result of this benefit will typically be posted to the primary cardmember's AAdvantage® account 6-8 weeks after meeting the spend requirement. EQMs will not count toward Million Miler℠ status. EQMs cannot be redeemed for award travel, AAdvantage® miles or any other AAdvantage® program awards. EQMs earned with the AAdvantage® Aviator™ Silver account qualify toward the primary cardmember's AAdvantage® program elite status earning requirements each calendar year, subject to the limits under the Reward Rules and the AAdvantage® Program. Full details on elite status and qualifications are available in the AAdvantage® section of aa.com."

Both cards will offer spend offsets to the required Elite Qualifying Dollar spend in 2017.[/B]

and FAQ: Earning EQD / Elite Qualifying Dollars on AA and Partner Airlines (2017 on)

  • First checked bag free for you and up to 8 companions traveling on the same reservation

    • With this benefit, the primary cardmember can receive one application fee statement credit every 5 years when the Global Entry membership needs to be renewed.
What are the terms of the 10% rebate benefit?
According to the Aviator card FAQ,
For this benefit to apply, your account must be open and active at the time of redemption.

The American Airlines AAdvantage bonus miles you will earn through this benefit will be based on 10% of the total AAdvantage miles you redeem each month during the calendar year. The maximum number of AAdvantage® bonus miles that can be earned annually from this benefit is 10,000 AAdvantage bonus miles per calendar year and per AAdvantage® account, regardless of how many AAdvantage miles you redeem in that calendar year.

This benefit only applies to AAdvantage miles redeemed from the primary Cardmember’s AAdvantage® account. Please allow 6-8 weeks after your redemption for American Airlines AAdvantage bonus miles to post to the primary Cardmember’s AAdvantage account.
Thus, this benefit
  • applies to all miles redemptions, regardless of the passenger name on the airline ticket or other award.
  • is limited to 10,000 miles in rebates per calendar year, regardless of how many Barclays and/or Citi AA cards you have.

For additional information about the 10% rebate benefit, see FAQ: AAdvantage Citi / Barclays 10% miles / mileage rebate (consolidated)and the associated wiki.

1. Does my current card earn at the Red rate or Silver rate? The letter said my credit card number and expiration date would not change, but didn't say anything about the 3 digit code on back of card. If I buy an AA plane ticket today would I get 2x or 3x?

2. For those of you that upgraded to Silver how long did it take to receive your card?

Thanks.
They aren't among the fastest with shipping the new cards, but your Red now works as Silver.

Do you have to receive an offer to be upgraded to silver, or can you call and make it happen that way? It's been 3 months since I've opened my card so I'm looking to upgrade.

Any recent data on existing Aviator Red cardholders being able to get a second card with the bonus miles? It seems like it's been inconsistent these past few months.

Most existing Red cardholders get "instantly" denied if they apply for another. Then some of those get approved through recon with humans.

Everyone who gets approved and pays the annual fee (which is not waived on this card) gets the bonus miles. So there's no question about bonus miles, just a question about getting approved in the first place.

In recent posts in the "other" thread (in the Credit Cards forum), people are cancelling first, then waiting a few weeks, then getting "instantly" approved.

Please note, this thread you're in now is more for those who already have the card (not just about applying for one). The "other" thread is specifically about applying for a new card, and thus has way more datapoints and information about that than this thread here is likely to have.

Gosh, that thread had the business AA Aviator card link for the few days that it worked, while there was never a mention (until me just now) about that in this thread.

My annual fee for the red card is about to hit. I'm waiting to see if I get my 10,000 legacy annual miles for paying the annual fee. Interestingly, I got a letter reminding me the annual fee is about to be billed, but in my previous years the 10k anniversary miles always posts about 25 days before the annual fee.

I barely spend anything on the card, maybe $1,000-$2,000 per year or less, and always have the fee get waived up till now. We'll see if they'll waive it again.

The letter they send announcing the benefits in past years, just like this year, NEVER mentions the 10,000 miles (not dependent on spending a dime on the card). Guess I'm grandfathered but always wonder if this next year is the year they stop.

As to whether you're promised the 10,000 miles: at the Aviator MasterCard site, under Rewards & Benefits, INSTEAD OF "My card benefits," click on "Earning AAdvantage Miles." For myself, I get
"Earn 10,000 AAdvantage anniversary miles annually." If they were discontinuing it, they would need to notify you, but I suppose it could be in the fine print of a statement.

Anyone have any experience with how the EQDs post if they're earned right before December 31st? I will likely meet the spend, but it will be right before the end of this year.

Do they "retroactively" post in December 2017 (which would be good for little more aside from upgrades), or do they post in January of 2018 for the 2018 year?

It doesn't matter if it take a few days to post, they will be earned based on the day of your flight, so any flight you take before 12/31 11:59pm will be loaded on your 2017 calendar.

Thanks for that. Mine has never stated anything like that from what I've seen, yet I've received them each year. Will see, as I am for sure dropping the card if they drop that, even with the annual fee waived. I already have an AA=earning card with Citi, barclay has always been just a way for me to get a free 10k miles each year, plus any random creative bonuses they decide to run for spending on the card

Another data point, I hit the $25k spending a few weeks ago and my monthly CC statement closed today. EQDs posted immediately, same as the regular award miles earned for every day spending

Just logged into AA and Barclay.
I just got posted on AA.com 10,000 Aviator MC Anniversary Miles and spent <$1500 in the past 12 statements. My getting the miles has NOTHING to do with spending a certain amount obviously.
I have none of the language you mention for your account benefits in my account benefits that I'm actually *supposed* to get the 10k miles. Yet i got them. 4th time for me and yet to pay an annual fee.
so funny. I guess I'll keep it even if they don't waive the fee, but I don't mind dropping it either since they already deposited the miles before the fee has been charged.

Converted Aviator Red to Silver in October. 20 and 25k spending thresholds met on Oct 25. Now noted on AA web site that EQM's and EQD's posted on Nov. 8, so about a 2 week delay (even though sites say can take 6-8 weeks). Did not need to wait until next statement posted.

EQD's put me into Platinum. If I get to 50k spend by the end of the year can get to Platinum Pro.

FWIW, brewdog isn't asking about flights. The question is whether we can time the spend on this card to get the EQD to post to the 2018 qualification year. I'm going to try and will report.

Yes, I'd also like to know whether others have been able to do this trick. I plan to hit the EQD threshhold at the very end of 2017, hoping that the EQD will post in 2018 and count towards 2018 qualifying. I have no idea whether this is a sound strategy.
