AA Boeing 737-823 airframes are currently configured 16F, 144Y (including 30 MCE), but a Cabin refit has begun.
NOTE: in accordance with AA “Project Oasis” all Boeing 737-800 aircraft are being retrofitted between 2018 and 2021. The first refitted aircraft of 304 738 airframes, N979AN, re-entered Service 13 May 2018.
Business / First cabins use 16 seats like those found today in the AA A319, with reduced seat pitch and recline. Lavatories are ultra-slim Rockwell Collins Spacewall lavs. See Oasis: New seats & less pitch, WiFi IFE & power all 737 and A321 2019-21 for further information.
As conversion has begun we have started a new thread at https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/american-airlines-aadvantage/1912327-aircraft-guide-738-737-800-oasis-reconfigured-first-business-seat.html for Business / First (A319 Seat with reduced pitch and recline) seating in the new Project Oasis
You should be able to see which configuration a particular aircraft has by referencing the (unofficial) American Airlines Fleet Site here.
Pre-Oasis 737-800 / 738 First / Business Cabin Seating
All 738s delivered prior to 10 Dec 2013 are equipped with center ceiling mounted drop down screens. N939NN and N941NN and others delivered on or after 10 Dec 2013 have seat-back AVOD and 110 VAC plus 5 VDC USB seat power.
Please refer to the (unofficial) AA 737-800 Fleet Page Link for 737-800 configuration information by registration ("tail") numbers.

I'll continue to avoid the bulkhead.
Would you know if seating on the 2-class A321 (sharklet) is pretty much the same - avoid the bulkhead and probably the last row, just in case?

Frankly, I just do this on all aircraft, period, as a matter of best practice, unless I have a very specific reason to do otherwise.

As do I. I was wondering if there is a specific reason to do otherwise on the AA A321. For example, I've grown fond of the bulkhead on IB's intra-Europe A321 flights.

I don't worry about avoiding the last row, I think limited recline seats are pretty uncommon in domestic first class.

Saw this in my news feed...I could have sworn saw a thread on possible changes to the 737 density.
This claims that with the new 737 max, F stays at 16 with pitch reductions in Y.

Incremental changes can lead to a tipping point. Add a few more passengers to load onto the plane; a few more bags to stow; a few more drinks to pour; a couple less inches of pitch..........BOOM.

738 Boeing 737 American Airlines
I have the chance to fly First Class on American on a Boeing 737..should I choose bulk head (Row 3) or what would you recommend?
Which side of the plane is better ? I think it's A-B and E-F
Thanks for any information.

From my experience the sides are indistinguishable as far as the experience goes, that doesn't matter much. I would choose a row besides the bulkhead though as the IFE will be considerably farther from the seat, and if you're tall enough the bulkhead can prevent you from fully stretching out.

it's really up to you, but I personally don't like the bulkheads because I find the wall to be a little constricting if you want to stretch out and sleep (rows 4 and 5 allow you to stretch your feet a little bit further under the seat in front of you).
The 738 is fine - it's legacy American so it'll be a little nicer than a legacy US seat with the dedicated drink trays, etc. You may or may not get AVOD
In terms of the side of the plane there's no real difference in the aisle, and for the window it's all about where you're headed / if there will be any nice views upon landing. IE flying north into LGA I like to sit on the left hand side of the plane; ditto landing into DCA most of the time, etc.

I agree the side of the plane doesn't matter. Bulkhead does have a little less legroom and you have to put your bags up above, but I sometimes like not staring at the back of a seat or someones head.
I prefer row 4, not bulkhead but a little further from coach and possible crying babies. Also prefer window when flying in first class, although I appear Aisle in coach.
Ultimately, in the 737-800, all of the first class seats are pretty much the same.

The nice thing about the bulkhead is that it feels a lot more open because nobody's in front of you, and if you're in the window seat you can get out to use the lav without disturbing your seatmate.
The side you pick doesn't matter...that's a throwback to the best aircraft ever produced, the MD-80.
