AA Boeing 737-823 airframes are currently configured 16F, 144Y (including 30 MCE), but a Cabin refit has begun.

NOTE: in accordance with AA “Project Oasis” all Boeing 737-800 aircraft are being retrofitted between 2018 and 2021. The first refitted aircraft of 304 738 airframes, N979AN, re-entered Service 13 May 2018.

Business / First cabins use 16 seats like those found today in the AA A319, with reduced seat pitch and recline. Lavatories are ultra-slim Rockwell Collins Spacewall lavs. See Oasis: New seats & less pitch, WiFi IFE & power all 737 and A321 2019-21 for further information.

As conversion has begun we have started a new thread at https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/american-airlines-aadvantage/1912327-aircraft-guide-738-737-800-oasis-reconfigured-first-business-seat.html for Business / First (A319 Seat with reduced pitch and recline) seating in the new Project Oasis

You should be able to see which configuration a particular aircraft has by referencing the (unofficial) American Airlines Fleet Site here.

Pre-Oasis 737-800 / 738 First / Business Cabin Seating

All 738s delivered prior to 10 Dec 2013 are equipped with center ceiling mounted drop down screens. N939NN and N941NN and others delivered on or after 10 Dec 2013 have seat-back AVOD and 110 VAC plus 5 VDC USB seat power.

Please refer to the (unofficial) AA 737-800 Fleet Page Link for 737-800 configuration information by registration ("tail") numbers.

Just flew new 738....always booked exit seating...no more...
The armrest bolsters must have been designed to function
As ladders to facilitate sideways exit in emergency..
Result is that Wider bolsters restrict seat width, and thus I s
No longer comfortable, despite legroom.
Give me a Mad Dog...

Yes - on a positive note AA's 737s have noticeably better seat pitch in F (40-42") compared to DL (37-38").

Yes, compared with DL's 739s (as opposed to their 73Ws/73Hs) the difference between AA's 738s is even more noticeable. I've always felt the 20 seat F cabin with 37" pitch is far to crammed on the 739s.

MIA -CUN return on 738

Hi

Just booked a MIA-CUN return on next July in Y. According to seat map in reservation it seems to be a plane with this configuration http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Ame...737-800_V2.php

As OWB I'm able to select a preferred seat for free and I picked 11F / 11A for the flights. What is your opinion on these seats and would you pay the extra for MCE seats?

Not familiar with AA S/H flights so what kind of service is there during the flight food & bewerage wise?

It looks the B738's with AVOD are hanging around ORD. All the flights I've flown AA between BOS and ORD and all my flights (10+) have had AVOD. I feel like the Food on DL might a bit better but I can't say.

Hopefully ill luck into one with the AVOD tomorrow. People say the PDB is more hit and miss on american and yes domestic food is likely better on delta but probably not by much. The 739 torture tube on delta has better IFE but was probably put into the planes due to the geneva convention. Lol. 😉

Enjoy the slouch-forward seating. The most uncomfortable F seat in the fleet.

738's on AA are 100% better than Delta's 737-900's or AA's A319 torture chambers.

What's wrong with the 319? I've only flown it once (DFW-BOG) in 1C, but it was fine. Seat was comfortable (I'm not all that tall) and the IFE very good.

30" pitch in regular economy and seats that are hard as a rock. But everyone here swears the LUS aircraft are the horrendous ones.

Not even close. LUS may have had inferior food service, but their configuration on their A319's, A321's (and also A320's) had 32" pitch in economy and decent pitch and seat width in first. The people who criticized the US configurations probably never flew in them, IMHO.
