There are already some sale flights up for those in the west coast. SFO-LIM rt for $332 ai. Jan-May but you'd have to purchase by tomorrow. There is a 3night min stay, but make a long weekend trip out of it.

Wow...i really didnt think so many people without business travel on here are EXP's and even blowing business travel in smoke.
Well, i have been PLT for the past 3 years, i was EXP before that. My goal this year is to hit EXP. So far i have JFK-BCN-JFK for January. JFK-NRT-BKK-NRT-JFK for February. That should put me at 25K. Need to be a bunch for the rest of the year hopefully with some planning and help from you guys, i should make it and maybe even DBEQM. My problem is also vacation days not money....grrrrr.....all those that mentioned 4 week vacation ....jealous really jealous got any job openings? lol |

Generally speaking, the people who actively participate here are pretty passionate about travel, far more so than the average flying population. That gives you a skewed sense of the number of EXPs who get it via personal travel. Additionally, due to DBEQMs for the past two years, there is an even greater number of active FTers that are EXP because of this promotion and they likely will not be EXP when the economy improves and the majors remove the DBEQM promos (that would include me). I suspect that the percent of EXPs via personal travel on FT is far, far higher than the percent of personal travel achieving EXPs in the overall, worldwide population of EXPs.

Regards I would say FT sort of encourages flight, so EXPs here are probably dominated by personal travel. Business travelers probably become EXP without needing to visit FT. |

I agree. I may be joining you in the ranks of the drop-to-PLT after next year if they don't do a double miles promotion :) <snip>

When my DBEQM post, I will hit the 125k Elite rewards level with 2 9 day trips to China via PVG, a long weekend dancing tango in FRA, and weekend MRs to EZE and FRA. No single ticket cost me more than $900, my FRA and EZE tix averaged $600. I think I spent less than $3,500 all said, and less than $1,300 was on MRs.
There are people here who have gone EXP for less than $2,000 by taking lots of weekend trips built around fare sales. Back when AA was selling ridiculously cheap flights to South America this spring, one could have gotten 93+K EQM for less than $1500 with 3 back to back LAX-EZE round trips (routing though JFK). I planned vacations around company holidays and used comp time I got for being on call to extend my vacation time by 4 days. I watched fares like a hawk, checked out all sorts of intermediate destinations, and was able to turn a comp day and company holiday into over 16K miles, for the same cost as flying directly. This year, I have 3 flights to PVG planned, that will net me about 45k miles, I hope to get another 30k miles taking weekend trips to the coasts for tango, and will make up the difference with MRs to FRA or other destinations. I will be using part of my yearly bonus as a cash pool to snap up cheap airfares to places I want to go. In other words, you have to work at it and plan.

So you see, WrLdTrvLnIndian? Stick around FT and you'll hear of all kinds of excellent fares. For about $1100, I just booked a third of the miles needed to requalify for EXP. And that's without the DEQM promotion. [To add to jakuda's note about the SFO-LIM fares: each of mine was $344 all in, but none required the three-night stay. I have two one-night stays and a two-night stay.] |

AA Double Qualifying Miles
I'm new to this forum. I am ExP and was lucky enough to do so by double qualifying miles. I have seen AA announce DQM twice this year and I believe in the spring of 2008.
The question I have is the following: 1 - Does this board get any kind of advanced notice (or leak) of this information? 2 - If not, then what month does these programs generally get announced? Thanks |
Last year it started in March, I believe. I usually get the heads up just by visiting the AA USA offers page: www.aa.com/offers -- and when they start offering it it will be on there, so just check that once a day and you should be fine. Sometimes the offers start literally on the day they are posted, so it's always good to check.
Hopefully it will be announced in Feb. this year (fat chance) cause that's when most of my flying is! |
March 18.
I was but a neophyte to FT. I had already bought a TATL ticket for that day. T&Cs stated that the ticket had to be purchased on/after Mar 18. I was deeply saddened.

Welcome to FT.
1. We don't usually get advance information on this. 2. There is no set pattern for announcing what are basically random programs. It happened once in 2008, twice in 2009. Not enough to establish a pattern, even in the unlikely event that there is one. Cheers. |

Thanks EXP status is very addicting. However, as has already been noted, there is no way to know for sure if AA will offer another DBEQM promo. So if you want to keep EXP status, the best thing to do is to work toward meeting the established requirements (100K point, 100 segments, 100K miles). If there is another promo, then you can perhaps cut down on a trip toward the end of the year. |

Thanks I too am hoping for another promo in 2010 and (apart from the 22k EQM I have booked for Jan/Feb) am holding off purchasing any more tickets in case a new promo only includes travel ticketed after the promo is announced. The 2008 promo and the Sep-Dec 2009 promos included previously ticketed travel whereas the Mar-Jun 2009 promo only included travel ticketed within that timeframe. If you are interested in the ins and outs of each promo, here are the previous threads: AADER Apr-Jun 2008 DBEQM Mar-Jun 2009 DBLEQ Sep-Dec 2009 |
